How to reset the transaction number and Journal Number of a Journal entry

You've come to the right place for help, @Lucky Chen. I'd be delighted to walk you through the process.

QuickBooks Desktop lets users achieve a variety of things including turning off the sequence number of journal entry. Please make sure that Automatically assign general journal entry number is turned off under Preference before we continue. Proceed as follow:

  1. Go to Edit menu, then Preferences.
  2. Select Accounting, then click the Company preference tab.
  3. Uncheck if the Automatically assign general journal entry number box is selected.
  4. Once done, hit OK.

Once done, you should be able to create journal entry without the sequence number.

How to reset the transaction number and Journal Number of a Journal entry

You cannot change the Trans#, which is a sequentially assigned number series that applies to all types of transactions, not just Journals.

You can control/reset the default Journal Doc Num assignment by recording a new Journal with the desired number. After doing that, the next Journal's Doc Num will be that plus one. This is how QB works for Invoices, Checks, and some other types of transactions where the numbers are assigned in sequence automatically.
