I'm glad you brought this up, jpgillen.
Your experience of being unable to access a customer that already exists is sometimes caused by a browser issue. It is normal for web-based platforms like QuickBooks Online (QBO) to gather cache files for faster browsing. However, too much of this can cause such error. I've got a couple of steps to help get this working.
Let's start by using a private browser. Since this doesn't store data in the cache, it the best place to isolate browser issues. Try these keyboard shortcuts depending on the browser you're using:
Then, test it by creating an invoice and adding the customer. If you're able to do so, I recommend you go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This will remove the log files and start with a clean slate. Otherwise, you can try other supported browsers to help narrow down the cause of this behavior.

I'm here to share additional troubleshooting steps, @jpgillen.
Let's first view your Customer Contact list. This way, you'd see all the customers added to your QuickBooks account. Here's how:
If your customer is not on the list, you can try using the Advanced Search feature to locate your customer's information using their address. You can follow these steps:

I am having the same problem but I am using the Desktop version. I enter a new customer but they don't show in the customer list however when I do a search for them under Customers & Jobs and then Active Customers I can find them.
Hi @broncobuster, thanks for joining the thread.
It's good to hear that you were able to view customers by searching them under Customers and Jobs. You are absolutely on the right path. Allow me to chime in and share additional information.
In order to view your customer list in QuickBooks Desktop, you'll need to go to the Customer Center.
Under Customers & Jobs, you'll need to click the dropdown button to filter and select an option. It depends on what you want to view.
You can also edit your customer's information by clicking the pencil icon located at the upper right of your screen. Please see the screenshot below for the detailed process.
Moreover, can you tell me more about where you're unable to view the customer list? Or what button are you referring to? You can also attach a screenshot of it.
For future reference, you can also read about how to create a customer group in QuickBooks Desktop.
