I'm unable to delete the date on the service description line. I uncheck the box next to "Date" and save changes but the date immediately reappears. Suggestions?

Unable to save the changes you've made in QuickBooks Online is sometimes caused by a browser-related issue. Let's go ahead and try these troubleshooting steps:  

  1. Use a private browser when turning off the Service Date feature in the company settings. On your keyboard, press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome), Ctrl Shift keys (Firefox or Internet Explorer), Control Option + (Safari).
  2. If you're able to turn it off from there, let's go ahead and clear the browser's cache. How do I clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files?
  3. Otherwise, you can try to use another supported browser when accessing QuickBooks Online and then save the changes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already thought of and tried clearing cache. Tried again unsuccessfully.

As you suggested I just tried incognito mode in Chrome and also tried Microsoft Edge on Dell desktop. Also tried Chrome on Samsung notebook.

Next step is to install Firefox I guess or reboot computer desktop in Linux.

Is it possible QBO application has a bug?

I'm grateful that you took the time to provide me with an update on the steps that you've tried. Allow me to provide additional information to get this sorted out.

 

There are few things that we'll need to check to verify why you're unable to delete the date on the service description section. First, make sure that the date option on the template that you're using is unchecked. 

To do that:

  1. Click on the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select on Custom Form Styles.
  3. Select the template that you're working on.
  4. Select on Content.
  5. Select on the second box of your template and make sure that the Date box is unchecked. 
  6. Click on Done.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, we can try to check your sales form content in QuickBooks to verify if the service date option has been turned off.

 

Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Under Your Company, select on Accounts and Settings.
  3. Select on Sales.
  4. Refer to the Sales form content section and make sure that the Service date is off.
  5. Then click on Done.

That did it. Not sure why date was showing on the custom and not the standard I've been using.
