I have some information about setting up an international vendor for direct deposit payment. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), international bank accounts are not recognized when sending direct deposit payments.
However, you can use accredited bank transfer services, such as Bill Pay for QBO to pay your contractors with international accounts. Please refer to these guides for details:
About adding your contractors, you can add them in as regular contractors. Just follow the steps below.
After that, make sure to get the W-8BEN form for non-US citizens.
Please don't hesitate to swing by if you have follow-up questions about contractors. I'm more than happy to assist you. Take care and have a great weekend.
Another option, you may utilize a billing management app to integrate with your QBO.

Otherwise, explore this free AP app to pay your international contractors in their local currencies.
QuickBooks only allows you to enter US addresses and SSN. No way to bypass this for international contractors. Any suggestions?
Hello, Curts.
Yes, you're correct that QuickBooks only allows you to enter US addresses and SSNs when adding contractors. With this, I'll gladly share some suggestions on how you can pay international contractors in QuickBooks Online (QBO), so you'll get to manage your expenses accordingly.
You can integrate a third-party application or use a bank transfer service like Bill Pay to pay your international contractors in QBO. This way, you can record your payments accurately.
Also, when you do business with foreign currency transactions, you can use the multicurrency feature. You may want to check out this article as your guide to learn more about this process in QBO: Use multicurrency in QuickBooks Online.
Please feel free if you have other concerns about managing contractors and expense transactions in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, Curts.
Use a separate Melio account for free and pay your international vendors by ACH.

Thank you for the info. We also need to pay an overseas contractor. We have his Form W-8BEN but need a social security number to enter him as a contractor in quickbooks. Do you know how we get around this or what to enter? The contractor has a US bank so it's not an issue on the banking side, just on getting him entered into quickbooks. Thank you!
Thank you for utilizing the Community page, @Melanie67.
Currently, adding a non-U.S. person to QuickBooks Online (QBO) isn't possible. However, we can enter a dummy Social Security Number and business address to add the contractor successfully.
Here's how:
Additionally, I advise contacting the IRS to confirm that you are filing the proper forms for any contractor-related paperwork you may need to file.

Thanks for the information, it has been very useful. I only have one doubt: Does the contractor that we need to pay internationally (through QB with the MELIO integration) must have his bank account in dollars or can it be in his local currency?
I'm here to share the steps to turn on multicurrency in your QuickBooks Online.
The contractor must have his bank account in his local currency to easily link the payment through setting up international transfers as well as adding your vendor's bank info. Before that, make sure to turn on your Multi-currency feature. If you haven't done so, don't worry, I will help you out.
Know that multicurrency is only available in QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, and Advanced. Multicurrency enables you to actively pay and receive payments in foreign currencies used by your customers, vendors, or bank accounts that differ from your home currency. Once you activate it, you can effortlessly enter transactions in a different currency, and QuickBooks takes care of all the necessary currency conversions. Here's how:
For detailed information, refer to this article: Set up and use multicurrency in QuickBooks Online.
Then, you can proceed to set up international vendors for wire payments, make a payment by following these steps:

Your vendor will receive your payment in the currency of their bank account. If they have a non USD bank account, their bank will convert it. A special perk for the month, if you signup for a new Melio account for free, you will get a $100 cashback from them to successfully complete your first payment on the platform of at least $200 with a credit card.

I am a Canadian contractor working for a US company remotely and I was sent an email to setup. It's asking me to setup my W-9 profile but I have neither a SSN or EIN, and I would not be paying any taxes to the US government due to tax treaties. How would I set up my account then?
Hello there, @WWong25.
I am here to share some insights on how you can set up your W-9 form without having an SSN or an EIN in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Form W-9 is used to request a taxpayer's taxpayer identification number (TIN), which could be either a Social Security Number (SSN) or an Employer Identification Number (EIN). In your case, since you do not have an SSN or EIN, you can still set up your W-9 form by providing your TIN instead.
Furthermore, I'm adding this article as your reference on how to update your business info in QuickBooks Online Payroll: Update your legal business name and address (intuit.com)
Come back to this post if you have other concerns or follow-up questions about setting up contractors. I'll be here to lend a helping hand.
Hi @GenmarieM,
Thanks for your response. Can you clarify how I can use my TIN instead of an SSN or EIN?
When I go to my account, I can either click use SSN (TIN format is XXX-XX-XXXX) or use EIN (format XX-XXXXXXX). Based on this, the TIN for Canadian individuals is our social insurance number which I have, and it is 9 characters as well (albeit in form XXX-XXX-XXX), so I can input it on either side in lieu of SSN or EIN. The problem is I also need to enter where to mail my tax forms, and it does not accept a Canadian address since I must specify a state.
I have attached a screenshot of what I see for your convenience.
Thanks for coming back to this thread, WWong25.
You can choose to use an Employer Identification Number (EIN) when utilizing your TIN to set up your forms.
Additionally, the option to use a Canadian address to mail tax forms is not available. This is because your QuickBooks Online region is set to the United States.
For more info on the difference between EIN and TIN, check out this article: What are EIN and TIN numbers?

Please leave a reply if you have further concerns about using your TIN. I'm happy to help you out. Stay safe!
