Good day, lizsensei.

I'd like to make sure we're on the same page. Are you adding the transactions from the Banking page? If so, you must include a customer when adding transactions to the Accounts Receivable account to prevent this error.

I've got a sample screenshot here for reference:

You'll also want to match the transactions if you've recorded it in QuickBooks. I've got this article that includes the instructions: Match and categorize bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

When everything is cleared and you're ready to reconcile the account, you can watch the video tutorial here: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us here if you need anything else. Thanks.

Utilize the 3rd party tool to help you. Export the Deposit data out, modify them, and reimport them back in bulk. Make sure to set some filters o avoid any duplication.

The template should be like this

Hi there and thanks for your response.

I looked at the screenshot you shared, but that is not the error I am running into. I have a series of Deposits that have already cleared, which are split transactions. One of the items in each of these deposits needs to be changed from one Account to another. So, I go in to the transaction, hit edit, scroll to the item that needs to be corrected, change the account, and hit save and close. However, when I do, I get the following message:

Something's not quite right When you use Accounts Receivable, you need to choose a customer. If the deposit is from a customer, choose the customer from the Received From field. If you are tracking expenses by customer, you can select Track returns for customers and choose a customer in the Customer field.

I have tried adding a "customer" (Square Customer as these are imports from Square -- I do not track customers on QB), tried creating a "customer" that describes the account change... I keep getting the same message.

I'm totally stuck. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Thanks for following up in this thread, @lizsensei

Before going into detail, could you provide a screenshot of the bank deposit screen?

For now, let's go ahead and do some troubleshooting steps to determine if this is a browser-related issue.

An incognito window creates a temporary session that is isolated from the browser's main session. Below are the keyboard shortcuts to open an incognito/private window:

  • Google Chrome - CTRL+SHIFT+N.
  • Mozilla Firefox - CTRL+SHIFT+P.
  • Microsoft Edge - CTRL+SHIFT+P.
  • Safari - Command-Shift-N.

I look forward to chatting with you soon. Have a safe and productive week ahead!

Thanks for providing details and screenshot, @lizsensei.

Currently, customer data doesn't sync QuickBooks Online and Square. For this reason, QuickBooks Online automatically create Square Customer within your Customers' list.

Our product engineers already know sync Square limitations to QuickBooks and looking for further enhancements with QBO and the participating tool.

I'll add these articles for more details as your reference about the default account and names to choose from after setting up your account in Square:

Please let me know if you have further questions. I'll keep my notifications open. Have a good one!
