I received a notice from the IRS that the 2018 w2 was not submitted on time (what IRS said)

I received a notice from the IRS that the 2018 w2 was not submitted on time. I’ve been using intuit software for more than 10 years and not had any problems with the w2. How do I send the w2 wage reports to the IRS and find out why this wasn’t filed?  I have also contacted the social security administration l, and they have not received 2018 w2 either?  I checked with them regarding w2 filing for 2019, 2020, & 2021 and all were received?  I need help is sending this 2018 w2 reports to the IRS and social security administration and have the IRS reassess the penalties.

Hi there, VJ-3740.

Let's check the filing status of your 2018 W-2 form to verify why the IRS was not able to receive it on time.

Here's how:

  1. In the left menu, click Taxes.
  2. Go to the Payroll Tax tab.
  3. Select Filings.
  4. Click Archived forms and filings.
  5. Locate the W-2 form for 2018.

From there, you'll see the status of the form submitted. It could either be Not TransmittedTransmittedAccepted, or Rejected

To understand more about the meaning of these status terms, see the below details:

  • Not Transmitted: You have submitted the form. But our service has not yet transmitted it to the receiving agency.
  • Transmitted: We have transmitted the form to the receiving agency. But the receiving agency has not processed the form yet. The IRS generally processes forms within a few weeks. State agencies can take anywhere from a few days to a few months.
  • Accepted: The receiving agency has received and accepted the form.
  • Rejected: The receiving agency has received and rejected the form. Review the rejection letter emailed to you for the specific reason.
