I snapped a receipt for a product return. How can i attach the receipt to the credit card credit?

I snap all my receipts and match them to the credit card transactions, which works great. But when I have a return, I scan that receipt and it will not match to the credit card credit transaction. I can add the credit, but now can I get the receipt to attach to it?

I snapped a receipt for a product return. How can i attach the receipt to the credit card credit?

Good evening, @lisa-roundrockre

Thanks for swinging by the QuickBooks Community. I hope your day is going great.

To clarify, are you attaching receipts to expenses that come from your bank? Then, does QuickBooks not recognize it when trying to attach them to the return (money back from your vendor)? If so, receipts can only attach to expenses (money out), not money in transactions.

You can see additional details about attaching receipts in Upload your receipts and bills to QuickBooks Online

However, if this isn't what you're trying to do, please let me know. Any extra information that you can provide will help me to find the right solution for you.

I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your reply and look forward to chatting with you soon. Have a good one!

Thanks for your feedback. I found a workaround for this. I saved the snapped receipts to a file and manually uploaded them to the credit card credit transaction. The odd thing is that after I did that, the original receipts found the match! I wish they could match to the credit without the need to manually upload!

I have the same problem along with about 3 other problems with this receipt management garbage. QB's response is so lame.  The idea is to attach receipts to transactions not just money out transactions. I can't believe they even have the stomach to put that response in writing.

I also got my return receipt to match the return transaction but when I hit the attach button it fails.

I snapped a receipt for a product return. How can i attach the receipt to the credit card credit?

Hi,

I am wondering if this has ever been resolved by Intuit? Is possible you can provide the steps on how were you able to manually attach the return receipts? I am scanning all of my receipts into Quickbooks and ran into this problem with Return receipts (I have quite a few!). Thanks for your invaluable help!

Regards,

Jose and Frances

It is mind-boggling that a simple minus sign (-) can't be used in front of an amount to indicate a credit, nor be recognized by the app's receipt scan function. The time I waste deleting credit receipts processed as charges and having to manually enter vendor and credit card credits is so wasteful.

I agree. I return a lot of things based on the number of customer bookings and the ability to recognise a return receipt really is crucial.

Sometimes I return only some of the items on a receipt so if that could be factored in, it would be great.

Hi, WholeArtEdness. Let me provide information about snapping a receipt for a product return on behalf of my colleague, Tori.

Currently, the option to snap receipts and have QuickBooks automatically recognize and attach them to the return is unavailable. However, on the bright side, making this feature available in the coming updates is possible.

CAN A PROGRAMMER PLEASE GET AROUND TO THIS PLEASE!

I’ve been a QuickBooks user since its inception, and while I appreciate the progress that has been made, I’m deeply concerned with the direction of QBO.

Having coded in quite a few early programming languages, I understand what it would take to implement and  create the coding for “if negative, credit; else debit.”  After 40 years, I find it hard to believe it would be more difficult to implement with all the technological advancements in programming ;). Yet QBO forces bookkeepers into rigid workflows designed primarily around accountants.  QBO is constantly pushing off the little things that would make the bookkeeper's life easier, yet all we continue to see are advancements, to make it easier for Accountants and CPAs who don't care about the details (have you ever seen what they do when trying to reconcile - it's disgusting to say the least in terms of "bookkeeping").

QuickBooks was once known as “the bookkeeper’s dream and the accountant’s nightmare.” Sadly, QBO has become the reverse: an accountant’s dream but a bookkeeper’s nightmare.

Does Intuit even realize the percentage of bookkeepers that had to teach the Accountants, dare I say it, yes, even CPAs, HOW TO USE QuickBooks! If it wasn't for bookkeepers, there wouldn't be QuickBooks at all, so please don't ignore us...

Please don’t forget that bookkeepers were the foundation of QuickBooks’ success. Simplicity, not complexity, is what made the product stand out in the first place.
