I’ve used both a personal vehicle and a rental vehicle for rideshare driving. I cannot use mileage deduction for the rental vehicle. Is it easy to note both scenarios by deducting mileage for my personal vehicle and actual rental expenses for the rental?

Hello there, @hummeljd-gmail-c.

Currently, you can only track miles for one vehicle in QuickBooks Self-Employed. QuickBooks is still working with TurboTax to update this feature so you can track multiple vehicles in the future. There are two categories for tracking a mileage deduction. You can track it as a business or personal expense.

Here's how to track it manually:

  1. Select the Mileage tab, then click on the Add trip.
  2. Enter the address where it starts tracking and the place where it stops.
  3. Input the distance and the trip purpose.
  4. Categorize the type either for Business or Personal.
  5. Select Save.

For more information about handling mileage tracking deductions, please refer to this article: Learn about standard mileage and actual expenses deduction methods.

I've also included this resource page to know more about the topics about mileage tracking in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE): Mileage tracking. This contains articles such as how QuickBooks calculates mileage deductions and fixing mileage issues in QBSE.

I'll be here if you have other concerns or questions. Let me know by dropping a comment below. Have a wonderful day.

To answer your question, yes, use the mileage allowance for your personal vehicle, and use actual rental expenses as the expense for the rental.  in QBSE since it is so limited, use office expense when you pay the rental
