I want to general a report that contains 4 separate classes

I have set up individual classes assigned to each asset I have, each asset has income and expense.  They report individually well but I need to run a report that contains the 4 individual classes on one P & L report.  Is that possible with QB desktop Pro 2021?

Thank you !!

Yes. It is possible to run a Profit and Loss report with classes using your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Pro 2021, Greisen.

To do that, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your QBDT.
  2. Click Reports, then choose Company and Financial.
  3. Select the Profit & Loss by Class report.
  4. On the upper right corner, click Customize Report.
  5. Go to the Filters tab.
    • From the Filter list, select Class.
    • On the Class drop-down, choose the classes you've made:
      • Example: Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, and Class 4.
    • Hit Ok
  6. Continue customizing the rest of the field.
  7. Click OK.

Here's a screenshot for your visual reference:

Once done, you can memorize this report to save its current customization. Memorizing a report can help you save time, as you can utilize the previous report you've made without customizing again.

Let me know if you need further assistance running a report with classes. Keep safe.

Thanks for getting back here in the thread, Greisen. Yes, you can select multiple classes in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account, and it's my pleasure to help you with that.

When customizing a Profit & Loss by Class report, we'll have to ensure that the Class dropdown is appropriately selected under the Filters tab so that you can have a seamless process of having the four classes.

Here's how:

  1. Select Reports, then click Company and Financial.
  2. Choose the Profit & Loss by Class report.
  3. On the upper left corner, click Customize Report.
  4. From there, look for the Filters tab.
  • In the Search Filters box, you can type for the Class.
  • Under the Class dropdown, pick the Multiple classes

Once done, you have the four individual classes you want to select in your account. However, if you don't have this option, we'll have to verify and rebuild data in your company file. This process resolves errors and other issues in the software.

To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Window, then select Close All.
  2. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  3. Hover your cursor over Utilities and select Verify Data.

If there are still problems with your company file, we'll have to rebuild it.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities, then select Rebuild Data.
  3. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup is finished.
  4. Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.
  5. To ensure no errors, perform the Rebuild Data process once more.

I want to general a report that contains 4 separate classes

I need class A class B class C class D

All in one P&L by year

Problem is I can't choose all 4 together, only individually.  I was hoping QBDT would let me select all 4 at the same to do a report (combined) in one date range but it doesn't look like that is possible.

Is it possible or not possible to chose 4 different class names into one report?

Thank you -

I want to general a report that contains 4 separate classes

Hi there, Greisen. I appreciate you for staying engaged in this conversation.

Yes, it's possible. The instructions provided by my colleagues above help include multiple classes in one report in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've read your initial post that you're using QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021. Please know that this product was discontinued on May 31, 2024. As a result, you may experience unusual behavior because discontinued versions will no longer receive the latest critical security patches and updates that could impact QuickBooks performance.

Still, you can perform a verify and rebuild process as suggested by my colleague. If that doesn't work, consider upgrading to the latest version. You can find more details in this article: What happens if I am currently on an unsupported version of QuickBooks Desktop?.

If you are thinking about upgrading to the latest version, please follow the steps outlined below to ensure a smooth transition and to avoid any potential issues.

  1. Create a backup copy of your company file and ensure your computer meets minimum requirements.
  2. Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
  3. Once done, update your company file to the new version

Additionally, here's an article for more details about personalizing reports: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
