I want to start fresh as if I just began using quickbooks, for 2020. Last year was like a learning year and now that I worked out kinks, I want to start fresh. How do I?

Hello there, smalltownspeech.

You're on the right track in learning more about the features in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To start fresh, you need to consider how long you've been using QuickBooks. Let me provide further details about this.

If your books are 60 days old or older, you need to cancel your account. This will not delete your data so you need to set up a new company to start over with new books.

On the other hand, If your books are less than 60 days old, deleting your company data will not cancel your QuickBooks or payroll subscriptions but will completely clear out your book. You just need to reenter your employees and historical data.

Base on the situations above, if you wish to delete your company data, cancel your current account, and start a new company, the How to start over in QuickBooks article will guide you with the steps you need to take.

Please let me know if you have other concerns about QuickBooks. I'm just around to help.

I am new to quickbooks online.  Last year is incomplete and I am unable to reconcile.  I would like to start with updated balances in 2022.  How can I do this without deleting the work that was completed in 2021?

Second question -

If my debit card is linked to quickbooks, do I need to enter my debit card transactions?  It would seem like it would be dublicating.

Thanks!

Thanks for joining us here today, @DaveJul.

I'll share the steps on how you can update your account balances. You'll want to create a journal entry to edit your opening balance. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to +New.
  2. Choose Journal entry.
  3. Select the Accounts affected (Opening Balance Equity and the account you want to enter the opening balance for).
  4. Click Save and close.

About the debit card transactions, transactions will download automatically in QuickBooks. If you've got duplicate transactions, you can delete them to correct your books. Let me show you how.

  1. Go to Accounting. Then, choose your bank account.
  2. Under ACTION, tap View register.
  3. Look for the transactions in question, one at a time.
  4. Select Delete. Then, click Yes.
