I want to turn off sales tax, so I can use the batch invoice feature again. How can I do that?

I used to be able to do that before QB added the new sales tax tab. I'd rather turn back to the old version so I can batch invoice again.

Hello, daharding-hardin. 

 

Sadly, we're unable to turn back off the automated sales tax once you activate it and go back to the old version in QBO.  

 

To learn how QuickBooks automatically calculates the total tax rate, you can refer to this article for detailed information: Set up and use automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online. It also contains instructions on how you can file your sales tax return with QBO.

 

But Good news is, If you're using a QuickBooks Online Advanced, you have the option to batch the transactions and mark-check the tax column. This help save time by sending the multiple invoice to multiple customers. 

 

Here's how: 

 

  1. Choose + New.
  2. Select Batch transactions.
  3. In the Select transaction type ▼ dropdown, tap Invoices.
  4. Click any of the fields on line 1 to start. This is your first invoice.
  5. Enter info into the fields. These are the same fields you see on a regular form.
  6. Tip: In the Product/Service field, select the + to add multiple products and services to that invoice. Or, select More options, then New line item.  
  7. Select line 2 to add a new invoice. To delete an invoice, select More options, then Delete invoice.
  8. Enter as many invoices as you need in separate lines.
  9. Press Save.

What if I cancel my QB subscription, download all my data, and resubscribe as a new subscriber. Then, if I don’t pick the sale tax feature, I would be able to batch import invoices again. Right?

Yes, we can batch import invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus and Advanced versions. Let's first make sure that your CSV file has the correct format.

 

Your CSV file must include columns for Invoice NumberCustomerInvoice DateDue Date, and Item Amount.

 

Here's how to import:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Tools, choose Import data.
  3. Select the Invoices button.
  4. From the Import Invoices window, click the Browse button.
  5. Locate your Invoice CSV file, then click Next.
  6. Map your column headings, then click Next.
  7. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the import process.

 

If you're already using the Advanced version, you can still create invoices in batches even if the sales tax is turned on. You can check this link for more details: Create and send multiple invoices.

I am experiencing the same issue with importing invoices right now.  We have the QBO basic and there was no warning that the import feature would be disabled once the sales tax was turned on.  We need to import over multiple invoices, what is the work around besides entering them in manually.  We do not necessarily need to send invoices as they have already been sent out with the current merchant system we're using.

Hi there, thanks for joining the thread. I see the importance of importing multiple invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO). 

 

Currently, the option to import invoices with sales tax into QuickBooks Online is not available. Since you're not using the QBO Advanced version, the only workaround is to enter them manually. You can also check out our third-party app options to see if they offer an app that supports importing invoices with sales tax. 

 

Moreover, I appreciate you sharing your ideas about including taxes when importing invoices. WHy does the "Help" information still suggest that you can turn off sales tax collection and then be able to import invoices. The comment here appears to be over two years old. That should be plenty of time to get the "Help" information updated. Just one more way to be frustrated with Intuit.
