The SKU in QuickBooks Online is more of sorting and searching at every stage of the sales process, nathan10.
With this, being able to reduce the inventory on hand of each product when a sale is made is unavailable. To fully optimize this feature, you might want to use a third party application.

So just to confirm you are saying it can't be done or it can be done with the item bundle? To give a little more background since the first time I posted I was limited by a character count. We are an e-commerce protein bar business that uses Shopify as our store. We have five different flavors; A, B, C, D and E. We sell each flavor in a 6 or 12 pack and then we sell a Variety 12 pack that includes 3 each of flavor A and B and 2 each of C, D, and E. Are you saying we would need a 3rd party application for inventory management since we have the variety pack? If that is the case do you know of a good 3rd party application?
Chiming in to share more details about bundle items, nathan10.
A Bundle is composed of individual items that you sell as one. If those items are part of your inventory, it'll reduce your quantity on hand after making a sale.
We can run the Inventory Valuation Detail report to see the number of items sold and the quantity on hand. From the Reports tab, search and select the said report. Then, make sure to set the correct reporting date.
You can follow these steps on how to set it up:
Select Inventory if you haven't added those items yet. Here are some of the articles about inventory and bundle items:
Also, we have third-party applications that can help you with inventory management. Simply go to the Apps tab and search an inventory application that fits for you.
We'll be right here if you need more assistance with this.
The bundle feature in QBO is enough for your case. But should you need more features, you may start exploring these IMS/WMS to integrate with your QBO.
