Importing transactions

I would like to import some transactions.

The instructions in the help files are not very clear, so I would like to see some examples.

When I click on the link that promises to show me samples I can download it just takes me to the support home page.

Where can I find some samples?

Importing transactions

Good day, byomtov.

I'd be glad to help you import your transactions in QuickBooks. Can you also share the link so we can check and fix it as well? In the meantime, follow these steps on how to get a template to follow:

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Import.
  2. Select Transactions, then select the transaction type you want to import.
  3. Proceed to the Gear menu, then click Export Table Template.
  4. Enter the name of the template and save it. This downloads the template in a .CSV (spreadsheet) file.
  5. Open the template on your spreadsheet application. There are many columns on the template, and you may need to scroll to see all of them.
  6. Add your transactions to the template, then save your work.

(For sales receipts) On the Deposit To column, be sure to specify the bank account type in your company file.

Once done, follow these steps on how to import them in:

  1. Go back to the File menu, then Import.
  2. Select Transactions, then the transaction type you want to import.
  3. Copy the transactions from your spreadsheet and paste them on the import window. QuickBooks will highlight rows that have the same info to alert you on transactions with multiple line items.
  4. (For sales receipts) Select the bank you would like to deposit the receipts to.
  5. If everything looks right, select Import.

Aside from that, you can also import banking transactions through Web Connect. You can use these articles as your guide: Download Bank Transactions in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac

Thank you.

I think I wasn't clear. What I want to know is the format of the file to be imported.

I know it's a spreadsheet, but how to format it is unclear from the help files. Examples would help.

Thanks for the clarification you've provided above, @byomtov. I'll make sure you're able to import your transactions using the corrected file format in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

In QBDT for Mac, you can create a QuickBooks spreadsheet template (.CSV file) to serve as your guide to successfully import your transactions. You just need to utilize the Export Table Template feature to know the format of the file to be imported. Then, open it on your spreadsheet application. There are many columns on the template, and you may need to scroll to see all of them. For the step-by-step guide, I'd recommend checking out this article's Import your transactions section: Import data into QuickBooks for Mac.

Also, QuickBooks connects to your bank in one of two ways: Direct Connect and Web Connect. If you wish to know more about how  to download and import your transactions in both ways, you can refer to this article: Download bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please don't hesitate to let me know in the comments below if you have other importing concerns in QBDT for Mac. I'll be around to help. take care and stay safe.

@byomtov

What kind of transaction type do you need to import? A bank statement or else?

Bills and invoices.

Thank you.

The link I was referring to is

  1. www.quickbooks.com/support/faqs/qbw2003/117503.html.

I tried the procedure you describe and get a spreadsheet with one row of column headings.

Do I merely fill in the data in rows below that?

That doesn't at all match the information given elsewhere in the help files, which involve various codes and formats.

Thank you for getting back to this thread, @byomtov.

The link that you were shared directs you to the QuickBooks help articles. This will provide you the all related topics and discussions about the product.

With regards to your template concern, yes, you can simply add your transactions to it. If you have an existing spreadsheet of your transactions, you can rearrange its items and match them to the QuickBooks template.

When done, follow the steps that were given by my colleague JenoP to import your transactions.

For more details, you can check out this article: How to Import Data into QuickBooks for Mac.

Let me know if you need further assistance with this. I'm always around to provide answers and clarifications to your questions. Have a great day ahead and take care.

Importing transactions

These templates are not quite what I was looking for.

What I want is examples of  IIF files for various transactions, especially bulls and invoices. The descriptions given by the help files are not clear to me.

Importing transactions

I've got some sample IIF files, byomtov.

The downloadable files are available in two versions, one that uses sales tax and one that does not. You can download these samples to practice or use as templates for importing transactions into QuickBooks.

After you've selected the correct file, you can now download them by clicking on the link. Then, save the file in a folder. Please ensure to take note of the folder you extract the files so you can easily find them.

You can also download Individual sample IIF files. This helps you practice each transaction before importing it to QuickBooks.

Once done creating an IIF file, you can now import the transactions into QuickBooks.

I'm only a post away if you need more help in dealing with the IIF files.  It's always my pleasure to help you out again.
