Inability to edit a transaction

Hello! I’ll do my best to explain my issue regarding a payroll tax payment and the bank register transaction. Via automatic e-pay my payroll taxes were withdrawn from my business checking. Quickbooks automatically recorded the transaction in my business savings. I cannot match the transactions. My savings account bank balance and quickbooks savings balance are not balanced. I can’t edit the transaction in any way. When I click the edit button it just takes me to a receipt like view with no ability to edit. I would like to reassign the account. I did not have this problem with my previous payroll tax payment bank register entry. I don’t even have the savings account set as a default for withdrawal or anything. I hope this makes a little sense and that someone can shed some light for how to edit the transaction or move it to the correct account. TIA

Inability to edit a transaction

 I've got your back, H1638.

Reviewing the payroll setup and making sure the correct account is selected will normally post the transaction to the correct business checking. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Select Accounting Preferences.
  4. In the Checking Account drop-down arrow, check and select the correct account.

If the correct account is already selected, I'd recommend creating a journal entry. This transfers the transactions to your checking account. Before proceeding, please consult your accountant for proper guidance. If you don't have one, you can use our Find-an-Accountant tool to look for an expert near you.

Here's how to create a journal entry:

  1. Go to the + New button.
  2. Select Journal entry.
  3. Fill in the needed details to create your journal entry.
  4. Click Save and close when done.

Also, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They'll be able to further investigate why QuickBooks automatically recorded the tax payments in your savings account.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you review bank and credit card transactions and put them in the correct accounts. This ensures your record is accurate: Categorize and Match Online Bank Transactions
