Income showing as an expense!

Not sure what is going on.  When I run an income report, random income deposits are not there.  When I run and expense report, these incomes are shown as negative expenses.  The P&L seems to be ok.

These deposits are coded and handled in the exact same manner that other deposits that were made on the same day. . . . Some are ok, some not.  And the bank statements all reconcile fine.  This has been going on for several months.  I have already "rebuilt" the data.  Working on Qbooks Pro.

Income showing as an expense!

I can share some troubleshooting steps that can fix this issue, pca27607.

The unusual behavior you've encountered is an indication of a potential data integrity issue. Aside from verifying and rebuilding your company file, you can install QuickBooks Tool Hub and then run the Quick Fix my File utility to further isolate this issue.

This program is a collection of tools that can help resolve data damages and runtime errors that a user might face while working in QuickBooks. For the best experience, we recommend using it on Windows 10, 64-bit. When you're ready, here's how to install QuickBooks Tool Hub:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install, then agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once done, follow these steps to use the Quick Fix my File functionality:

  1. From the tool hub, select the Company File Issues tab.
  2. Select Quick Fix my File.
  3. Once the process is completed, click OK.
  4. Open QuickBooks again, then check your income report.

However, if it's still not now showing the accurate data, I recommend running QuickBooks File Doctor. You can follow the Step 3 section of this article to be guided in performing the process: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

Take note that your issue may have been resolved even if the scan says it was unsuccessful. In addition, I've attached some resources that you can browse to help speed up the reporting process in QuickBooks Desktop:

Keep me posted if you have any other concerns or further questions. I'll always have your back.

Thank you for trying to assist.  Regrettably, this did not work.  And I was unable to open the File Doctor. . . It didn't seem to download automatically (though the green bar showed it was processing) and when I searched for it manually, it wasn't there.

I really need to straighten this out and am at a loss.  I did just recently upgrade to the most newest version of QB - could the program file be corrupted?

Income showing as an expense!

Good job in upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to its latest release, @pca27607. I'm here to guide you with other troubleshooting steps to fix the minor data issue with your company file.

To start, I'd encourage re-downloading and then installing the QuickBooks Tool Hub on your computer (Windows). The tool is one of the recommended and most effective ways to repair your company file. Please follow the steps provided by my colleague above. Then, make sure to complete the installation process and run the QuickBooks File Doctor.

In case the issue persists, you can refer to this article to know other solutions: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

In the meantime, I'm adding this article to further guide you in managing your income and expense transactions using QBDT: QuickBooks Help Articles. It includes topics about banking, expenses, and reports, to name a few.
