invoice copy duplicates invoice #

Previously, copying an invoice would automatically generate the next sequential invoice number, while keeping other info the same.  Now, it retains the invoice number, and when you save, it gives this message:

A number so nice, you used it twice. There’s already an invoice with 2721. You can use it again, but it resets your invoice numbers (starting from 2721). Do you still want to use this invoice number? Yes/No

Does this mean I have to figure out my next invoice number before I can copy to create a new invoice?  In what situation is this useful?

It's great to have you here, @kimzeyk,

This is kind of odd. Normally, this alert only comes up when you enter the numbers manually in the sales form and QuickBooks detects an identical entry.

To check if this issue is caused by the large data in the cache, try using a private window and copy an invoice there. As the cache stores your data it stacks up overtime. This is because it will constantly overwrite itself without deleting the old stuff, causing QuickBooks to function poorly. The private window will not save any history making it a good place to identify browser problems.

To open a private browser, use these keyboard shortcuts to lauch private browsing:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

If you no longer see this alert in private browsing, clear the browser's cache. This will help delete the history of the browser, so you can start in a clean slate.

Let me know how it goes, as I want to make sure this is fixed. I'll be right here if you need further help. Enjoy the rest of the day!
