Invoice format changed how do i get it back to showing open balances

I'm delighted to have you in the Community today. I'll help you restore your previous invoice format to show the open balances that your customers have in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company.

Before we do so, I'd like to share possible reasons why this happened in your company file. Know that It could be you've created a custom template and didn't choose it when making new invoices in QBO. It's also possible that when you set up a custom invoice template, you didn't tick the box for Show on the invoice causing it to exclude a piece of helpful information in your invoice format.

For the first situation that I've mentioned, you'll want to ensure that the template you've created is selected when creating an invoice. Here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the left navigational bar, click the +New button.
  3. Under Customers column, select Invoice.
  4. Input the necessary information.
  5. Press the Customize button below the Tags section, and ensure you've selected the custom template you created.
  6. Once don, click the Save and close button.

To double check if the changes applied in your invoices, you can click the Print or Preview button.

Now for the second situation, you'll want to make sure that you've ticked the box for Show on invoice. These are the steps:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top right corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Under Your Company column, select Custom form styles.
  4. Locate the template you've created, and then click the Edit button below the Action column.
  5. Toggle to Content, and then check the box for Show on invoice.
  6. Lastly, click Done.

In addition, here's an article to help you manage invoice payments in QBO: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

I've also got you this helpful article about customizing reports in QBO: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

You can click the Reply button below if you need help managing invoices in QBO. Also, don't hesitate to post here again if you have any concerns. It'll always be my pleasure to help you out again. Take care!
