Is there a way to convert a standard invoice to a progressive payment invoice? I have an invoice the customer wants to make payments on and I want tracking

Hello, ANGLRN8TN.

I'll give some details about your concern.

Converting a standard invoice to a progress invoice is currently unavailable. You can, however, enable the progress invoicing feature in the settings

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear > Account and settings
  2. On the left panel, click Sales.
  3. In the Progress Invoicing section, click the toggle icon to enable the feature.
  4. Click Save and then Done

Then, create a progress invoice template and make it default by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear Custom form styles.
  2. Click New style and select Invoice or update one of your existing invoice templates.
  3. Enter a template name like "Progress invoice template."
  4. In the Design tab, select Change up the template or Dive in with a template and choose Airy new. This is the only template you can use for progress invoices.
  5. Go to the Content tab and click on the second section of the form.
  6. Select the Show more activity options link. Then select the Show progress on line items (email only) checkbox if you want to show item details on progress invoice.
  7. Hit Done.
  8. In the Custom form styles page, find the template and click the drop-down arrow next to Edit.
  9. Choose Make default

You can check out the video tutorial in this link for more customization: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Once done, record an estimate and create multiple partial invoices from that transaction. Here are the steps:

  1. On the left navigation menu, click + New > Estimate.
  2. Select your customer from the drop-down list.
  3. Fill out the rest of the estimate.
  4. Hit Save.
  5. Click the Create invoice button and choose an option under How much do you want to invoice?
  6. Select Create invoice.

Please see this sample screenshot for a visual guide:

To keep track of your progress invoices, you can follow Step 5 in this article: Set up and send progress invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Should you have other questions or concerns, please let me know in you reply. I'll be glad to help you out some more. Have a great day!

Is there a way to convert a standard invoice to a progressive payment invoice? I have an invoice the customer wants to make payments on and I want tracking

It has been over 2 years since this question was asked.  Has Intuit addressed this?  Sometimes we don't know that payments will need to be made. It's difficult to track when the next invoice should be issued. Meanwhile, the customer is being charged late fees, which have to be deleted. Is there a work-around? Any helpful suggestion?
