Hey there, @suzannem1.

QuickBooks Online allows you to edit your client's information so their address will auto-populate on the invoices you create. To do access this feature, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Invoicing tab and choose Customers.
  2. Find and click on the Customer whose address you need to add.
  3. In the top right-hand corner, press Edit.

      4. Add their address under Billing Address.

     5. Hit Save.

That's all there is to it. Now, you can make sure it saved correctly by checking the address listed under your client's name.

Please know I'm only a post away if you have any other questions. Take care!

I thank you and that is what we do.   My question is... when IN an invoice so you have all-ready started and are working away.. and then need to update the address if you do it right there on the invoice it saves with that invoice but not into the customer screen.  In the desktop version for 20 plus years we used it that worked so it is frustrating.  I have to save the invoice go out and update it should be auto with the invoice.

Hello there, suzannem1,

QuickBooks Desktop is different from QB Online. If you update the customer's address while creating the invoice, it will only do that for the invoice created. The information will not be synced to the customer's profile.

If you need to update the customer's info, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague above.

I'll send feedback to our product developers about your suggestion. We collect data on customer's needs for the next product updates.

Let me know if you need anything else.

I miss this feature too.  I have many changes and often times don't know of the change until I am entering an invoice or sales order.  Would really like to be able to auto update from the invoice/sales order as the desktop version allows.

I cannot believe that they have removed this feature from the online version too.

We process lots of Sales Receipts each day and this is now becoming a show stopper with repeat customers...we have only now started to find this out as they come back and the staff using the system are fed up as it wastes too much time and is unworkable when you have a shop front !

What are the developers doing....

BTW - yet another "QBO does everything the desktop version does so you must switch" - LIAR !!

I was coming here to find an answer to this question too.

Very disappointed that it is such a huge process to make changes to a customer name or address while working on an invoice. save the invoice, go back to the customer list, find the customer again, edit the information save and then go back to the invoice again.

I tried editing it while working n the invoice and it just goes back to whatever is on the customer list when I click save.

Really how hard is it to put an edit button next to the customer name within the invoice. I hate that Quickbooks Online is still behind the times. Tried using it in 2017 and it was really awful then so went back to Desktop. Giving the online version a trial run again and  it’s better than it was in 2017 but still awful.

In the desktop version when creating an invoice I would pick the billing customer and then under the ship to address there would be a drop down of various ship to addresses that I could have chosen from.  For example, I invoice my billing customer but the products that we ship are shipping to my billing customer's customer and so I use their address for the ship to.  Now, when I create an invoice under my billing customer I have to physically type in the ship to address that I want and it's not getting saved.  Am I don't something wrong or is saving the various ship to addresses not an option on the online version?  If it's not....I'd just like to say...huge flaw.  Huge waste of time for me to have to re-enter these ship to addresses every time.

Allow me to join this thread to assist you with your concern about adding a ship to address in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @TARA08247.

To keep yourself from re-entering the ship to address of your customer when creating an invoice, let’s add this to the customer’s address upon setting them up. This way, QuickBooks will automatically detect the shipping address. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu from the left panel and select the Customers tab.
  2. Select a customer from the lists and tap the Edit button.
  3. From there, go to the Address section and enter the corresponding information.
  4. If you have the same Shipping address as the Billing address, you can mark checked the Same as billing address option. Otherwise, uncheck this and enter your complete shipping address.
  5. Lastly, click the Save button to complete the changes.

However, if you’re referring to adding multiple shipping addresses to enable you to choose from the dropdown whenever you want to deliver this to a different location. In that case, this option is not yet available.

I understand how this can be beneficial for your business. Thus, I recommend sending this suggestion directly to our product engineers. This way, they can get notified of the features that business owners need. To do so, go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
