I'd like to know when this feature is scheduled for development.
Hello travismichaelcross,
We're unable to get the time frame when this feature will be added to QuickBooks Online. Rest assured, our engineers are aware of this and might include the request in future updates.
You'll want to check our QuickBooks blog here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/. This is where you can see all the new features added to our platform.
You can always leave a comment on thread if you have any additional questions or other suggestions. Thanks.
Whats the status for this feature. It's critical and we are also waiting for it.
I appreciate your input from every angle, @Billing Department.
Right now the feature you're looking for isn't available. We're unable to provide the exact time frame to when this will be integrated with our program. Although, I saw several requests already and I understand how beneficial it is to your business.
In the meantime, I encourage you to star our blog to keep up with any product updates or improvements on the online version: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/whats-new/.
Additionally, I want you to get the most out of QuickBooks for your business. You can check some articles that are designed to help you get acclimated with the software. They can be accessed at the following link: QuickBooks Tutorials.
As always, you can get back to me if you have any additional questions. I'm here for you. Have a great day!
Is this available yet? Seems like a super easy build and something beneficial for a lot of people.
This feature is still unavailable for now, @allen6.
Though we receive a lot of features requests, our developers are closely reviewing any added features in QBO to avoid errors once they're released in the system. We appreciate your patience until this feature is available.
As mentioned by my colleague, our QuickBooks Blog site is the place we post updates with the latest product enhancements made in QBO.
In case you need some related articles for your future tasks, you can always visit our Help articles for reference.
Please post again or leave a comment should you have any follow-up questions or concerns. I'm always here to answer them.
I tried to vote for this feature to be added, but the link now goes to an "its closed" page and then suggests we come here to leave comments about it.
My comment is:
I thought QBO did this. This is one of the reasons I pay for it. I feel a little cheated that it is not included.
If the concern is about security and the dangers of variable insertion, why not set it up so that there are fixed incrementing selectable variables (month, year, etc.) with start and stop dates that QBO would handle?
If there is another reason this isn't being added, I think it would help us all if someone would at least tell us why. Right now the responses from QBO seem to all be cookie cutter.
When you read their messages its noticeable that they aren't even referring to the specific issue. The responses could be cut and paste across almost all customer suggestions.
For the time being, consider a 3rd party billing app to integrate with your QBO.
Great.. Another subscription to compensate for the poor flexibility of QBO.
Why has this not been implemented yet? This is insane. Is there a feature roadmap somewhere? So I know if can jump ship from this sinking vessel?
We should pay for a third-party app to add the recurring month to our invoices?
Perhaps we should also pay for a Third Party app to be able to enter the recurring amounts? Oh wait, that's included.
Maybe a new QB policy to improve Intuit's profitability could be to start removing functionality. Then customers would have to buy third-party apps for each removed functionality. I am sure they would get a percentage of each app purchase.
Yeah, since these doodahs purchased quickbooks desktop decades ago, they have been intent on running it into the ground but pulling as much profit as possible for an obsolete platform. If they spent money on it instead of simple pulling margin off it, it would be a great product.
The inability to customize font or use automatic fields is total ignorance. No matter what their team says, they will not do any of these changes. If you run a simple company, the online version MAY be enough. But if you are a construction company that buys and sells or does percentage invoicing, your screwed. I make do for now but when my employees take over my business, I know already they are going to run to another platform...and not intuit based. I have a vision in my head of five overseas employees laughing their butts off each day with our money and our folly.
When is this feature coming out? I am also waiting for last 4 years for this feature
Hello there, sachingu.
We don't have a specific time yet when the feature to be able to enter another variable and enter the month and year inside the description of the recurring invoice. Meantime, you'll want to use the workaround shared by Fiat Lux - ASIA.
You can always log in to your QuickBooks Online account and click the notification bell at the upper-right for more updates on our features, or you can click here.
Feel free to post your questions here if you need more help. Take care!
This is beyond ridiculous - paying customers have been asking for this feature for YEARS. Other platforms, including open-source systems (e.g. Invoice Ninja, from which I'm migrating) have this feature and for years now.
The utter disrespect of Intuit for it's customers' requests is appalling - we keep getting canned responses that provide no benefit other than to prove again and again that QBO development cares nothing for it's user base.
Having implemented this type of feature in my own development before, it's pretty low hanging fruit when you've got predefined variables. What exactly does development spend their time doing??? It's not like new useful features are pushed out on any kind of regular basis. Considering the monthly cost of QBO, you'd think after a reasonable period something would be done - and waiting years doesn't seem like a reasonable amount of time.
Suggesting using a recurring billing app as a solution is a cop-out for something this simple. Shame on you, Intuit. This just reinforces the general perception that Intuit cares about nothing except conning new users into moving to their platform and then milking them for all it's worth. Maybe stop trying to aggressively push customers into buying more products and start actually implementing features users are actively asking for.
You could ensure this gets implemented before I cancel my subscription as well.
Hi Everyone -
First, I want to add my voice to the chorus of people saying that this is an essential feature that should be easy to implement and that it's ridiculous that thousands of users have been asking for it for 4-5 years and nothing has been done to address it. Seems like there is a serious disconnect between the customer service agents and the actual development team. Come on, Intuit - just get this done!
Second: I have a temporary fix I have implemented using Zapier.
1) This requires a paid Zapier account to connect with QBO, which is not ideal.
2) There are a lot of caveats and use cases that are not exactly like mine that might require fiddling with it or might not work at all.
But if you are familiar with Zapier and maybe already have a paid account, this is a good solution that should work until Intuit can get it together to release this feature.

As a new QBO user I need this feature too, i'm reading a lot of popular feature request thats are being there for Years and I never see one of them being implanted.
Are your developper are doing something ?
Could we get access to a monthly feature release ?
new QBO customer, just assumed this was a feature... its 2021. When will it be implemented? Crazy that it hasn't been in place for years
Good day, @mattk3.
I definitely understand how it can be frustrating to sign up for a service and have it not work the way you think it should be.
For now, there are no specific timeline on when this feature would be available in QuickBooks Online.
Since our developers based the adding of features by the number of requests they received from customers like you, let me send another feedback on your behalf. The more request they will get, the likely it'll be implemented in the future.
In the meantime, I recommend visiting our Firm of the Future site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features.
If you have any other concerns, feedback, or questions, don't hesitate and come back to the Community. I'm always here to help you. Have a great day.
Quickbooks is a rent collector. Much like Microsoft office, it's not great but it's universally used so Intuit sees no need to improve it. They just collect $40/mo and you and I are forced to accept mediocrity because accountants use it.
Hi,
Here to also request. It's now mid 2021 and there are 2 pages to this thread of people asking for the feature. The subscription to Quickbooks is a premium fee, especially now that you are billing per "employee" for payroll. So I would like QBO to make our admin lives easier and add this feature. It seriously isn't hard to add a variable to a template that pulls the month and year of the invoice date, or month+1 to set the billing period for the following month.
As you are charging a premium, I and other customers will look elsewhere for the features required. We run a business and can't afford to waste admin time of this sort of menial task.
Please add the feature, after 2.5 years of asking for it!
Regards
6 years of requests and counting. It is an appaling statement of our Quickbooks feels about its customers.
Just how do you decide what features to change ?
I want a variable insertion in invoices too.
Another option, consider having a subscription management app to integrate with QBO. They offer the starter plan for free to manage up to 20 customers.
We are at a point where we are looking to move because of this feature. I see this is almost 3 years ago since QB got this posts and I believe the requests started even earlier. Kindly but urgently address this matter and let us know.
