Job P&L by class

Hello All,

i would like to break out my jobs by class. For example, if I have three class categories: earthwork, demolition, and erosion control. I would like those to show up on the left hand column. Then the Job revenue and expenses in columns two and three. See below:

Class.            Cost.          Revenue.
earthwork.      $50.            $100

Demolition.     $25.             $50

Erosion.          $10.             $20

Job P&L by class

I'm here to guide you as to how you can break out your jobs report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Derek1121.

The Profit and Loss by Class/Job report will display columns by class and customer:job across the top. By default, your list of job revenues and expenses will show on the left-hand column. While your class categories (earthwork, demolition, and erosion) will show on the next (three) columns.

However, you can export the above-mentioned reports to an Excel worksheet. This way, you can set the columns according to your preference and get the data you need accordingly. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Company & Financial, then choose Profit & Loss by Class.
  3. Modify your report by selecting the Customize Report button.
  4. Once done, select the Excel button.
  5. Choose the Create New Worksheet option.
  6. When you’re ready to export, click the Export button. 80.PNG

For the step-by-step guide and details about how you can get updated reports while working in Excel, you can refer to this article: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, QBDT provides different reports that cater to your business needs. To know more about how QuickBooks generates reports and see the complete list of available ones, I encourage you to check out this article: Understand reports.

Let me know in the comments if you have other reporting concerns and questions about managing your jobs by class in QBDT. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @Derek1121.
