When I create a journal entry, it does not show up when I go to customer's transactions.
Welcome to the Community, @RatchetRob. Let's use the filter to view the journal entry you've created for your customer. Here's how:
There, you'll see the journal entry. For future reference, read through this article: How to apply a journal entry credit to an invoice. It helps you learn about how to update an open invoice by applying the journal entry to it.

Hello @katherinejoyceO,
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I applied the filters you instructed, but the journal entry is still not showing up.
Thanks,
Robert
Let me join you, @RatchetRob1.
The journal entry is a record of a transaction that Debit and Credit column is assigned to an account and reflects on the chart of accounts.
The customer’s transaction page will only show sales transaction and does not include adjustment entries. You can run a Journal report in QuickBooks Online. This will show the entry you created for the specific customer. I’ll show you how:
You can use this article as a reference to show specific detail just the way you want them: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.
Always feel free to check with us Robert if you need help with QuickBooks Online. Have a good one.
Thanks for joining @MadelynC
I found a customer where journal entries do appear, attached in screenshot.
I am just trying to understand why some do show, and others do not. I can provide more information if needed.
Hey there, @RatchetRob1.
Thanks for following up with us.
Some of your journal entries won't show due to the dates of the journal entry. For example, if you had an old journal entry, it won't show on a list of the more recent transactions. I recommend checking for the dates of the entries. I understand how this need would be beneficial to both you and your business, if you'd like, I can submit product feedback to our developer team, so this could be considered in a future update.
Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. I'm happy to lend a helping hand. You can always reach out to us here in the Community to get you back to business. Take care!
Hello @Tori B ,
I am still not understanding why some journal entries show up and others don't. All my filters are set to pull "All Transactions" and "All Dates." Yes, this would save a lot of time and reduce mistakes when looking back at past transactions. As of right now I can only view past journal entries if I perform an advanced search or report for that specific customer, which is time consuming and doesn't make sense.
I am trying to see how I can replicate the customer where the journal entry shows with all the other transactions, but I have been unsuccessful.
Thanks,
Rob
Once it's filtered to all dates, all transactions should show up, Rob. This unexpected behavior can be caused by some browser hiccups.
We'll perform the basic steps to fix it. Start with logging into your account through a private browser. This is the right place to isolate web issues. These are the shortcut keys:
If you're able to successfully view the entries using the private browsing session, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This prevents and fixes web issues.
Also, you can use a different browser like Google Chrome or Firefox.
Feel free to get back to this thread if you need more help with this.
Hello, @RatchetRob1.
Since the journal entries you created from the previous dates aren't showing even after you filtered it to the correct date, it'd be best to reach out to our Online Support so they can isolate this issue.
I want to dig deeper into this, however, doing so will require access to your account which I'm unable to do so in a public forum. Our support can assist you with this and investigate further why your entries aren't showing up using their tools.
For other questions and concerns, you can always drop by again in the Community. I'm here to help however I can. Have a great day.
Hi @RatchetRob1.
I just ran into this myself. I found it particularly jarring since:
- Journal entries DO show up in the Customer's Transaction List in QB Desktop
- Journal entries DO show up in the Transaction List by Customer report in QB Online
- The Transaction List for the Customer in QB Online is labeled 'Transaction List'
I just got off the support line with QB support. After taking me through all the steps above (browser settings, Journal Entry search) they admitted that Journal Entries in QB Online will only show up in the Customer's Transaction List if they are linked to an Accounts Receivable account. #frustrated
@RatchetRob @mark_richman @IntuitLily @Kristine Mae Came to this thread with the same issue. I also do not see the Journal Entry. However, my goal was to fix an issue on the P&L and balance sheet. I was able to go to the P&L and see the impact of the change, which was good enough for me. Thank you for this thread... frustratingly I continued to change and update the journal entry for about 45 minutes. After finding this it was clear that it is a common issue.
Hey, I ran into this problem so many times. I'm using QBs Desktop, but the idea behind it should be same. I think I have a solution to it. When you are making a general entry, remember to put the account (i.e. A/P, A/R) which is attached to a customer/vendor on the first line of the page. And finish the rest of the entry like what you normally do. In that way it will show up on the transaction list when you are done entry.
QuickBooks Team, could you improve this feature so that we don't have to be bothered by it?
Thank you
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @DAINI.
I appreciate the workaround you've provided in this thread. Let me share information on how we can improve the feature in QuickBooks.
I understand the importance of having the option to improve your experience in managing Journal entries. With that, I still encourage you to send feedback to our product developers so they can get to know this feature and may add to future product updates. Please know that your opinions are valuable and highly appreciated.
Here's how:
Our Product Development team will review it and consider it in future updates. You may visit this link to stay updated with Intuit's latest news: QuickBooks Blog.
I'm attaching this article for future reference in managing Journal entries in QuickBooks: Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac.
Feel free to post again if you have clarification and additional concern in managing Journal entries under customer transactions. I'm always here for you.
