My profit/loss statement is showing my expense category explanation. I don't want it to show up.

Happy Thursday, @RGAGENCY. I'm here to help you customize your Profit and Loss report.

For Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet Standard, Statement of Cash Flows and Customer and Vendor Balance Summary reports, you have Display Rows and Display Columns that tell QuickBooks which rows and columns to include in the report. In just a few steps, you'll have the expense category explanation column removed from your report. Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports Company & Financial Profit & Loss Detail.
  2. Press on Customize Report at the top-left.
  3. In the Display tab, go to the Column section and uncheck the column you don't want to display then hit OK.

Here's an article that provides more information on how to customize and run reports in QuickBooks.

Let me know if this works for you. I'll be here if you have further questions. Have a great day!

My profit/loss statement is showing my expense category explanation. I don't want it to show up.

The solution is not for the category "description"...when I run the P&L standard, I want just the category...not the category and the optional description I have with it... can't figure this out!  I just upgraded to 2020 premier ...i was with an old QB 2008 and was able to print w/o optional description

I'm looking I think for the same...when I run the P&L standard, the categories that I have an optional description on, the description shows... I do not want the description I have in the optional area of the category to show when I run the P&L standard report... I'm using QB Premier 2020 (I was using QB 2008 and the description did not print).. Help!

Thanks for joining this thread, @cgregorovic.

Allow me to assist you, so the description will not show up on your Profit and Loss report.

Since you’ve turned on the description option, it will automatically display once you run a report. To eliminate this, you’ll have to turn this feature off to exclude the detail.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Go to the Edit menu at the left top.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Choose Reports & Graphs.
  4. Under Company Preferences, unmark the Name and Description option.
  5. You can select the Name only.
  6. Click OK.

You can customize your reports in QuickBooks by setting up your preferences. You can check this article for more information: Set report preferences.

I hope I made you smile @cgregorovic .
