Need help setting up contractor

What kind of help?  Is there some reason not to just set them up as a Vendor?  I'm assuming the Contractor is an LLC, Inc or some other business entity and not a 1099 employee.

If there is something special about this Contractor, give us some more details.

I only have payroll core to get vendor option do I need something else? It is an LLC. Every time I go to enter pay the category section gives me no options and says it’s mandatory field.

Yes it’s an LLC. But I don’t have vendor option? When I go to pay contractor the category section gives me no options and it’s a mandatory field.

Let me guide you on how you can set up your contractor, lftrucking2019-g.

Intuit gives you options to meet your payroll needs. You'll want to see which specific version of QuickBooks Online Payroll you have, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Click the Gear ⚙ icon, go to Account and Settings.
  3. Select Billing Subscription, then Payroll.
  4. Select Plan details. Here you see which payroll plan you’re using.

If you want to pay contractors by direct deposit, you'll need an active payroll subscription with Intuit. You need an active payroll subscription to pay by direct deposit, even if you don’t run payroll for active W-2 employees. But first, you'll have to create a profile for your contractor.

Then, pay an independent contractor using direct deposit. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and select the Contractors tab.
  2. Next to the contractor’s name, select the dropdown and then Pay with direct deposit.
  3. Enter the amount for the direct deposit.
  4. Select the expense account you use to track paychecks in QuickBooks. Note: This is the expense account on your chart of accounts where QuickBooks records the expense. It's not the bank account the payment debits from.
  5. Select Save & Send or Save & New.

Please read this article for more information: Pay Contractor With Direct Deposit. Additionally, to take a closer look at business and employees information, here are some reports available in QuickBooks Online Payroll: Run Payroll Reports

Please let me know if you have questions about setting up a contractor. I'll always be right here to help.

Greetings, @Cskull3r

Thanks for chiming in on this thread. I hope your day is going well so far. Let's work together to get this resolved.

Trying to use some of the helpful troubleshooting steps can help your QuickBooks Online from freezing and going blank. Let's use a private browser or incognito window to enhance the account to fix the problem.

Here's how depending on your browser session you're using:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift
  • Internet Explorer/Firefox: Ctrl Shift
  • Safari: Command Shift

If this works, go back to your regular session and clear your browser's history. If not, please provide us with some additional information so we can determine the best solution for your business.

This should do the trick. Reach back out if you have any trouble along the way. Best wishes!
