New invoice (HATE IT!) - how do I add a subtotal? The dates column is missing in the invoice view. Progress invoice detail is not on the screen, lower right. Where are dates and progress details???

This new invoice is terrible! I cannot get my client's invoices done today and am going to postpone because I cannot create them properly until someone responds. Numerous issues!

  • I cannot see the dates column on the screen. I have to open the print view to make sure items are in the proper date order.
  • I don't see any way to add a subtotal within the invoice. I used to click "add subtotal" at the bottom of the invoice then drag it to where I needed it. How do we add a subtotal???
  • I do progress invoicing and there used to be details on the screen. Now I have to use print view to see it. UGH!

We appreciate your feedback about the new invoice template in QuickBooks Online, LaBelleBooks. I know that software changes can sometimes feel challenging, especially when you're used to a familiar workflow.

Let me walk you through the specific details to address your concerns about creating invoices using the new template.

I'll start by sharing the steps for adding the Subtotal. Here's how:

  1. Open or create an invoice.
  2. Add all the items in the Product/service column.
  3. Click the drop-down list for Add product or service, then choose Add subtotal.
  4. Click Save and close.

For progress invoicing, make sure to add the Service date column so it's visible when creating the transaction. Here's how:

  1. Click Manage in the upper-right-hand corner of the invoice.
  2. Choose Customization.
  3. Enable Service date by sliding the bar to the right.

To show the progress details, you can follow these steps on how to include the Progress on line items column:

  1. Go to the Gear or Settings icon and select Custom form styles.
  2. Click New style and then Invoice to create a new invoice template. You can also update one of your existing templates by clicking Edit.
  3. Choose the Airy new template under the Design tab.
  4. Proceed to the Content tab, then click the table section of the form (the second section with Activity, Rate, and Amount).
  5. Click Show more activity options, then check the box for Show progress on line items.
  6. Choose Done, then click Save and close.
