New user: Accurately portraying accrual basis from bank statements?

I have just migrated all my financials to QBO.

I have pulled in my bank statements, which tracks when invoices are paid (cash basis).

My current P&L therefore is running on cash basis (i.e., showing money received in Q1 2020 that I had reported as income invoiced in Q4 2019).

If I want to have my reports all in accrual (for consistency to 2019), does this mean I have to manually import all invoices for 2019 and 2020 and then match them to each incoming cash payment?

Good day, @tex-mex.

Yes, you're right. You need to import all of your invoices and match them to your latest downloaded banking transactions. This way, you can view your reports on an accrual basis.

If you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO) Advanced, you can import multiple invoices at once so you can save time. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Import data.
  2. Look for the Invoices section, then click it to open the Import Invoices window.
  3. Select Browse and then find and click the spreadsheet of your invoices.
  4. Continue by clicking Next and map your import fields.
  5. After you map the fields, review the summary of your import. If everything looks good, select Start import.
  6. Click OK if all your invoices are imported.

If you're not using QBO Advanced, I'd recommend using a third-party app to import your invoices. Simply go to the Apps menu and look for the app.

You can also run the Transaction List by Customer report in QuickBooks. This will show you the list of income transactions grouped by customer. Just go to the Reports menu and open the Transaction List by Customer report.

Additionally, you can customize your reports to get a better view of your transactions.
