Posting Date Warning Message

I hope someone can help! I cannot find my answer and QuickBooks help desk has not been able to resolve my issue.

I'm using QB Desktop Premier Nonprofit Edition 2021 on an HP Windows 10 computer, updated 7/23/24, version 22H2. The date and time are correct on the computer.

My issue: We changed our fiscal year closing date from June 30 to July 31. Now every time I hit "save" to post any type of transaction I receive a message that says: "QuickBooks lets you do this, but it's not a good idea. Here's why: This transaction is in a closed period. Changing it could affect your previously filed tax returns."

My closing date is correct, July 31, 2024, and all of the reports that I have run to test it are correct.

I have even rebuilt our company file date and it did not make a difference.

Posting Date Warning Message

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, SLP123.

When a closing date and password are set up, you'll see the message you're seeing any time you go to save a transaction you're editing or entering.

If you'd prefer not to see this message, you can remove your closing date and its password.

Here's how:

  1. Access the company file as an admin user.
  2. In your top menu bar, go to Edit, then Preferences.
  3. Open the Accounting tab.
  4. Go to your Company Preferences screen.
  5. Click Set Date/Password.
  6. Remove the password from your Password/Confirm Password fields and clear the Closing Date field.
  7. Select OK.

I've also included a detailed resource about working with closing dates and their passwords which may come in handy moving forward: Set or change your closing date & password

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a lovely Tuesday!
