Print 1096 Form

Why does QBO no longer provide for printing a 1096 for when this is required by the IRS for filing by mail (under 10 1099 vendors)?  If QBO allows for printing of 1099s then it should also allow for the printing of 1096.  I have been utilizing QBO for over 10 years to file my 1099 and 1096 and this is the first year that QB has not provided an option to file 1096!!!!!

Print 1096 Form

I can share some information about printing 1096 forms from QuickBooks Online, EFM2.

Currently, QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Contractor Payments don't provide Form 1096 as it's no longer necessary if you have filed electronically. However, you can still get a summary of your e-filed 1099s from the 1099 filings tab.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Taxes then select 1099 filings.
  2. Select View summary.

The following article provides instructions on printing 1099 and 1096 forms in QuickBooks who need to file their forms with the IRS as well as information on where to purchase the necessary 1099 kit and how to e-file your forms directly with the IRS: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms.

Refer to the following article if you need further guidance on correcting errors or filings on 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms after they have been e-filed: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks

There is no option in QBO for printing the 1096 on the IRS form.  For the 1096, there is only the option to "View Summary" which is not in the 1096 format (see attached screen shot).  THERE IS NOT OPTION TO PRINT 1096 IN THE IRS FORMAT!!!

Print 1096 Form

Hi there, @EFM2.

I understand your concern regarding the unavailability of the print option for Form 1096 in QuickBooks Online. Allow me to provide you with some information on this matter.

If you choose to file your tax returns electronically, the submission of Form 1096 is not required by the IRS. However, if you choose to file manually, you'll need to fill out the 1096 form and mail it along with the 1099s. You can click on the View summary button to obtain the needed info. Once the form is completed, attach it to the 1099 copy and send it to the IRS.

For additional information on printing your tax forms, you can refer to this article for detailed steps: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms.

If you'd like to review your past tax forms and payments, here's a guide on how to do so: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

If you have any further questions or concerns about printing Form 1096, please feel free to reach out to us. Our team is always available and eager to assist you. Wishing you a great day ahead!

One more reason that I hate Quickbooks Online. I do bookkeeping for small businesses that might only need a few 1099s. I used to print the 1099s and 1096s on forms that I purchased. Now I can't print the 1096 unless I choose to file the 1099s electronically which costs me more money.

This is BOGUS!

I agree!  This is CRAP!  I have 4 1099's to send out and do not want to file electronically.  I print everything myself to save money.  I see QB wants to squeeze even more money out of me.  What a disappointment!!  They keep going up on the prices and take away they services.  I hate this program.

As a bookkeeper, I have several clients who file less than 10 1099 forms and is not required to file the form electronically. The IRS does require to supply the 1096 form if the forms are mailed. How else would I get the 1096 form printed, if I've been using QBO to track all 1099 vendor payments for my clients???

This is a totally unacceptable business practice. You can't take away tools that you provided previously and still charge the same or even higher price as each month the fees are going up!

I will be looking at different accounting software options - Intuit keeps changing the software and raising the prices for less service.
