I have less than 10 1099s so I am printing my 1099s from QBO; however, QBO no longer has the option to print the 1096 form in 2024 What happened?
I see the importance of printing Form 1096 as you file your 1099s in the IRS, EFM2.
Printing and filling out your Form 1096 is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Contractor Payments since QBO doesn't provide Form 1096 complying with IRS guidelines. Thus, you'll have to print this form outside QBO. You may reach out to the IRS to get this form or manually download the Form 1096 from their site and include the summarized information from the 1099 form.
In addition, if you e-filed your 1099 you can print it by following these steps:

Why would QBO stop allowing small businesses with less than 10 1099 forms to submit, not to be able to print the 1096 which is required to accompany the 1099 copy As to the IRS?
Hi there, @NancyC.
I understand your concern about the absence of the option to print Form 1096 in QuickBooks Online. Let me provide some information about this.
If you're filing electronically, the IRS doesn't require Form 1096. However, if you're filing manually, you'll need to fill out the 1096 form and mail it along with the 1099s. You can find more details by clicking the View summary button. Once completed, you can attach it to the 1099 copy and submit it to the IRS.

I have been a bookkeeper for over 20 years and yes I know the 1096 has to accompany the 1099 Copy A forms sent to the IRS. This is the first time I will have to hand write my 1096 forms for my clients that either don't need to e-file their 1099s or don't want to pay to e-file. It should be a free service for all QBO users if Intuit wants to continue to make it easy for small business to do these tasks. I still don't understand why QBO would take this option away, it doesn't make any sense.
This is frustrating and you are avoiding the answer.
Per your response:

I already know all of this. The question is why can't I PRINT the 1096 form from QBO like I have for the last 10+ years. The 1096 is required by the IRS for filing manually so why can't I print it in QBO anymore?
Hello there, EFM2.
I acknowledge that this circumstance may have caused you stress.
There has been an update that the IRS no longer requires Form 1096 when filing electronically. If you need to file them, you'll have to fill out Forms and email them to the IRS.

I am going to ask again, if an IRS 1096 form is required for filing manually (as you and QBO has acknowledged, stop telling me it is not required for electronic filing, I know that), why would QBO not allow for the printing of the 1096 form when needed? I have printed this form from QBO for the last 10 + years. Please answer why QBO is not allowing for the printing of this Form 1096. Do not state again it is not required for filing electronically. I AM NOT FILING ELECTRONICALLY, I AM FILING MANUALLY WHICH REQUIRES A FORM 1096!
I'm right here with you on this one. QBO has inexplicably taken away the ability to print the 1096 on the pre-printed form. I guess I can do it by hand, but the omission of this ability makes no sense whatsoever.
Simple answer...they want you to pay them to file the 1099's....
Very frustrating at how you are avoiding this answer. Of course, e-filing is easier for you, but for those of us that are small and don't require that, where is the 1096 template we have always had??? Small business like us were practically forced to go with this online option and you slowly take away services and things we had with our desktop version. You provided the template for the 1099's, so why not for the 1096?? Ridiculous...
Last Monday, January 22, I got an email from Christopher at Quick Books Online Support team asking me if my issue had been resolved and it not, to reply to the email with a date, time and phone number for Online Support Team to contact me. I replied immediately with all the information and to contact me on Tuesday, January 23rd. I never got a call from QBO Support and I never got a response to the email. I have followed up with the email daily sending a reply to QBO Support.
I'm here to help, @EFM2.
I highly recommend requesting a callback for the Online Support team to contact you again. You can follow these steps:

This is another good reason to stay with Quickbooks Desktop. I have one very small customer on QBO and I absolutely dislike working with the interface. Now I have to hand print a 1096?
This company has one US person living overseas who needs a 1099, so this 1099 must be printed and mailed as QBO doesn't allow for non-US addresses.
How can this system be so inflexible, and on top of that force people to hand write a 1096?
Quickbooks, get it together with your on line format. Those of us who actually know what we are doing would like to have the desktop version on the on line. Better bookkeeping and easier access to information. And better pricing.

To everyone here that wants to print out their 1096, I just created a 1096 template through Photoshop that is pretty close to what we had when QBO allowed us to print. You'll need Photoshop to use this, of course, and this only accounts for name, address, contact name, phone number, email, EIN, total number of forms, and total amount reported. It will check off the 1099-NEC box.
Paying it forward to those who are frustrated like myself that we couldn't print this out. Please share with your friends who might have the same problem.

I agree this horrible what Intuit has done not allowing the customer to choose E-file or print/mail with the 1096 forms. I have been waiting customer services to tell me where do you print you 1096. The service is all artificial intelligence and it shows how poor and unprofessional Intuit.
That works IF you can file electronically. For some reason QBO cannot file 1099s for an LLC that has an SSN for the Tax ID. In this case you must print and mail.
Please either fix the tax ID issue or bring back the ability to print the form 1096.
This is a big failure for Quick Books. I have not seen one good reason this form is no longer available to online users. What are you thinking???? Whoever made this decision should be fired!
THIS IS A HUGE FAILURE AND DOWNRIGHT ROBBERY. QB HAS TAKEN AWAY SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS ABILITY TO PRINT 1096? WHAT IN THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING? THIS IS LUDRICOUS. I PURCHASED THIS APP FPR THE ABILITY TO PRINT MY 1099 AND 1096. HOW DO YOU ALLOW US TO PRINT 1099 AND NOT THE 1096? QB HAS TAKEN OUR MONEY FOR 4 SMALL BUSINESS COMPANIES AND ROBBED US FOR THE ABLITLY TO PROINT THE 1096. WHY? IS THERE ANOTHER PROGRAM TO USE OTHER THAN QB? WE ALL KNOW THE SERVICE IS LESS THAN SUBPAR NOW AND THE AGENTS ARE LEARNING AT THE SAME TIME TRYONG TO HELP YOU WITH A BASIC QUESTION.
