Printing Customer Letters

When I try to print letters for customers, instead of printing to a Word document, the letters are downloaded to a worddata.doc file on my computer that I cannot open.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Printing Customer Letters

Hello there, @WRIMW

One of the programs may cause this issue. Let's fix it by running the QuickBooks Print and Print Repair Tool from QuickBooks Tool Hub.

It will help resolve common errors. Let me show you how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. We recommend you download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Then save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop). Note: If you've already installed Tool Hub before, you can find out which version you have. Select the Home tab. The variant will be displayed on the bottom right, or you can select About to view it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

From the Tool Hub, run the QuickBooks PDF and Print Repair Tool.

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select QuickBooks PDF & Print Repair Tool. It will take about a minute to run.
  3. Attempt to print, email, or save as a PDF from QuickBooks Desktop again.

I'll be sharing this article as your reference when you have print and PDF problems with QBDT: Troubleshoot PDF and Print problems with QuickBooks Desktop. These include other solutions to resolve printing issues like fixing XPS Document Writer.

I added this article if you need help in tracking customer transactions: Get started with customer transaction workflows in QuickBooks Desktop.

None of this works, I spent 3 days on the phone with support last week, was sent to Level 2 support and they said it was an issue on the QB side, not my computer or programs at all.  That was 4 days ago and they are supposed to be working on a fix for this but I've heard nothing back and there are no program updates.

I have this same issue. I made sure that my software is up-to-date, and I ran the repair tool. No resolution. I have QB DT Pro 2020. Please advise.

I am experiencing the same issue. I have tried all the application repair options from the Quickbooks Tool Hub. I have repaired, uninstalled, reinstalled office 365, rebooted, and still the same problem. Tried it with 2 different quickbooks company files. Using Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 on Windows 11 with Office365.

It appears it creates a worddata.doc file in the Public user Quickbooks documents directory but fails to merge with the mailmerge document and then deletes the worddata.doc file. Don't see the file in any temp directory

I upgraded to QB Desktop 2023 and have not been able to print letters since. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word and QB and that didn't fix anything. Downloaded the Toolhub- that doesn't work. Could QB please get back to us on what the issue is and when it might be fixed?
