I’ve got a solution for you to get rid of this error, @Brant.

The status code 3140 that says “There is an invalid reference to QuickBooks Account "###### - #########" in the item…” happens if the mapped item account in Point of Sale is incorrect, or the item account is inactive or deleted in QuickBooks financial.

Before you perform the instructions below, make sure to create a backup of your QuickBooks Point of Sale (POS) file and QuickBooks Desktop Pro file. After, follow these steps to review your Preferences:

  1. Open your POS.
  2. From the File menu, select Preferences.
  3. Select Company.
  4. Under Financial, click Accounts.
  5. Check the Basic and Advanced tabs. Ensure the accounts are mapped correctly, then select Save. Please know that an account name in brackets ([ ]) indicates that the account isn’t mapped.
  6. Run financial exchange.

Then, check your item account. Here are the steps to do it:

  1. In QuickBooks Financial, select the Lists menu.
  2. Go to Chart of Accounts.
  3. Press Account at the bottom, then click Show Inactive Accounts.
  4. If it's inactive, it has an X mark beside its name. Select on the X mark or right-click the account, then select Make Account Active.
  5. Run another financial exchange.

On the other hand, if the account is deleted, you’ll want to create a new one in the program. You can use this article to learn more: Get help with 3000 status code errors.

QB Point of Sale Financial exchange error

Before posting, I had already taken the steps you recommended.  So I spent over four hours on the phone with POS support and resolved the issue.  We run a "reboot" file in the directories of QB Desktop Pro and POS v19.  I have no idea what this did, but it seems to have resolved the issue.  Thanks.
