it is now 1/20/22 and qb 2022 will only print forms 1099-NEC in 2 part. This must be filed with the IRS by 1/31/22. Unfortunately I'm in a state that is not cleared to file online. We need a fix for this immediately, or at least confirm you will be paying back all penalties imposed by the IRS. thank you
It is fixed. You have to reload the last update and reinstall it.

I followed the instructions supplied but am still unable to print the 3/page 1099-NEC forms on my QB Desktop 2018 Premier Contractor edition. Can you offer any further help, please?
@tmb80 and @queenkate777
QBDT 2018 is no longer supported and will not be updated to print the 1099s in the new format. You'll need to hand write them or upgrade to QB 2019, 2020, 2021 or 2022.
Good luck.
How many do you need to print? I'm using 2016 and hate to pay the crazy price to update for just 15 1099's. I created a spreadsheet and printed them on the form myself. Kind of a pain but better than paying my cpa $320 and better than $1000 qb upgrade. Maybe next year.
It's now January 20th, the 1099 deadline is in 10 days. Not only is NEC still formatted to a 2 part forms when it should be 3 part, I followed all of those steps, multiple times. Now, in addition to still being formatted to a 2 part form, it's wanting to use box 15 of 1099 Misc for all 1099 NEC payments - it is not a drop down item, so you can't change it. Even if I check the box to put all payments in box 1, it still says box 15 on the MISC form. It is wanting to put all NEC payments in "State Tax Withheld" box on the wrong form. Seriously, 10 days for an accountant with 300+ NEC forms to generate for 15+ clients and Quickbooks hasn't fixed this yet??? I have 30+ clients to do year end, W2's, quarterlies and 1099's and I can't even generate a 1099 for them? This means instead of finishing everything for each client and moving to the next, I am going to have to go in and out of multiple clients because if and when the 1099 issue gets fixed, I have to back track to finish their year end work!
I posted the following earlier. My forms printed correctly. Good luck.
Here is what I did Think this is working. Go into the mapping for form MISC and when it gets to the mapping payments, click on the drop down menu and select omit payments.
Now go into the mapping for NEC and then you can access the drop down menu to choose Box 1 or whatever you need.
This has made my payments show up now. Haven't checked to see whether I have 2 or 3 to a page but at least I have the right info on the form
I had to remap all my accounts before I could even start. I couldnt figure it out because the week before I ran vendor summary reports so I would know how many forms to purchase and then I couldnt get the report to print, ie nothing was mapped after the payroll update downloaded.
Try to remap the accounts first, choosing NEC, map those accounts then save/close. Open again and map MISC accounts. It will show your NEC maps, continue to map all MISC accounts then save/close. If it doesnt put in the correct boxes after that and your on payroll version 22202, then something is really off.
Worst case, I created the forms in Excel for those of my clients who do not have QB, but give me all their vendor information. Since there are typically only a few, its easy to print them. When you have the amount you have, it would be more cumbersome and I would use a merge field, but hopefully it doesnt come to that. Best of Luck.
@Linda S Appreciate your answer!!! Upgrade meaning purchasing?
They only print on versions 2019 and later. Intuit did not update version 2018 for the new 2021 3 pu 1099-NEC printing.
I have the latest version of QB 2021 and it will not print the 1099NEC - it won't even do a print preview. Help!!
It is not fixed...have done all updates several times. Called support and was told they have not updated yet but would be done before the 31st. I have a vote of NO CONFIDENCE.
I have Quickbooks Premier 2021; at first, I could only print the old 2-part 1099 NEC; then, I made sure I had all current updates, including "critical fixes." After all this, and updating, now I can't even preview my 1099s and they aren't hitting the print que. Does anyone know a fix for this?
I tried this but it did not work for my new 2022 QB Desktop version (just purchased this week)? It is still printing 2 Form 1099-NEC forms to a page, rather than 3 to a page as now required by IRS? Is there another fix or process I need to do? These are due within 10 days, so I need a fix ASAP. Thank you!!
See my earlier posts, you may think you've run them all, but the only way to be sure is to Help from the top tool bar and down to Update QuickBooks Desktop - click on Update Now tab and check the box Reset Update and then get updates again. It will prompt that you need to restart the program to install them. Once you close the program, right click on the icon and choose Run as Administrator.
You will need to do this process over and over until nothing else is left to update. It took me between 4 and 6 times depending on what version 19 - 21 to get them to view and print 3 up.
Hope this helps,
Here is the fix. Go to the help from the top tool bar and down to Update QuickBooks Desktop and go to the tab update now screen and click the box Reset update and then Get updates again. Sounds like there are 3 or 4 more for you to go. When it prompts you to close the program to update, then right click on the QB icon and choose Run as Administrator to get them to install. Keep doing these until there is nothing left to install. I called QB 4x before someone finally could help. It just appears that QB is updating, but I was told it sometimes gets stuck and that is why the RESET UPDATE must be used. If I have omitted something, call and share this with them so they can fill in the blanks. If this didn't work, the second thing the customer service agent was going to try was to reinstall my QB program. Previously I been told I had to buy payroll & upgrade to current 2022 program etc. Crazy. Good luck.
reinstall the entire Quickbooks program? If so, that is ridiculous! We shouldn't be having to go through this!
@queenkate777 - Sorry, but yes, purchase...
Thank you - I Finally got it to work - appreciate the great input!!
OMG! This worked the first time. I think it's the sequence you suggested that did it, because before when getting updates and resetting updates, I wasn't telling it to get updates AGAIN. Thanks!
I am so happy for you and glad it worked ! Wanted to pass along what I knew because I was SO-O-O frustrated last week and reading all of the posts, thought why am I different, again Sabrina the tech was great explaining to me how these updates work behind the scenes.....now that I understand it, it makes it easier to work with and I think even gave me some patience! Happy Tax Season.
I updated my 2022 Quickbooks desktop, restarted my computer but the 1099-NEC form did not change. Is there a step I am missing?
is there a way to change it back to print for two box form?
I'm with you on the frustration!! But now I can relax knowing the task is finally done!!
I have three clients who use Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions - I have updated 3 times and still the 1099-NEC forms are printing in a 2 per page format.
