2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

You clicked the box that says "reset update?"  Do not listen to Intuit people as the latest actual update doesn't fix it!

This is crazy!!!! January 25th and there is no "Critical Update" that fixes this issue of going from 2 part to 3 part 1099 NEC form!!!!  The "CU" update is still "PENDING".  And when updated once it changed my mapping from Box 1 to Box 15 for 2 of my mapped accounts???????

I just spoke with an Intuit tech and all he could advise was to wait a couple more days for the update???  This is not OK.  I can't believe QB has been this slack.

Anyone else been able to resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Linda Z

I just re-re installed the updates after checking the box to "reset updates," and now I have the same problem, it won't let me select Box 1, only putting it in Box 15.  I am fed up as well and frustrated.  It's pushing it too close the deadline.  This is usually such a simple process!

YES -- this issue is in BAD DIRECTIONS.  Go to the part you USED to go to 1099 MISC and then using the drop down menu THERE select "OMIT from 1099"  in every account you use for 1099s.  THEN SAVE.  Then go BACK OUT and BACK INTO 1099 NEC and the drop down menus will be unlocked.

I FIGURED THIS OUT -- QUICKBOOKS DOES NOT KNOW - -they keep making you reload the software or get updates THAT WILL NOT FIX THIS -- THE PROBLEM IS YOUR SYSTEM IS LOCKED INTO THE "OLD" form and you have to OMIT the accounts there it INCLUDE it in the NEC form -- that is what is meant by UNMAPPING.

PS I figured this out after THREE MONTHS, over 100 hours, having the software on 2 computers, and having my data file "fixed" --- sitting on the phone staring at the computer for the third consecutive hour ---- the problem is they do not explain where or how to unmap your accounts -- it is in the form you DID use, but don't want to - BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE THEY ARE MAPPED TO NOW --- so it's step 3 in the process and the drop down menu WILL WORK on the 1099 MISC side, selecting OMIT there breaks the box 15 lock on the NEC side.

Literally more than 1 hundred hours of  my time.

Linda,

There is much discussion on this and several "solutions" none of which I know for sure work.  I tried several of the fixes and to no avail however I did one to work.  I had to go in and delete all my previous updates and them go update again.  But before you go and remap to correct NEC, close QB and then restart your computer.  If when you open QB and log in as administrator, it ask to update then you are on your way to resolution.

I had to do this twice and the second time it work, who knew?  Good luck...it is really frustrating.

Go to the part you USED to go to 1099 MISC and then using the drop down menu THERE select "OMIT from 1099"  in every account you used for 1099s MISC before this year.  THEN SAVE.  Then go BACK OUT and BACK INTO 1099 NEC and the drop down menus will be unlocked from box 15.

THE PROBLEM IS YOUR SYSTEM IS LOCKED INTO THE "OLD" form and you have to OMIT the accounts there it INCLUDE it in the NEC form -- that is what is meant by UNMAPPING.

The fix I am proposing on this page is the only one that works; the "lock on box 15" problem is in the 1099 MISC section -- go THERE First and UNMAP the accounts from THAT version of the 1099's SAVE and then go back in and the box 15 lock will be gone.

Has anyone been told by Quickbooks that they have to have the payroll add-on in order to get the 1099 update? We have Enterprise and we've always been able to run 1099's without any payroll add-ons. Last year we had one person tell us we wouldn't be able to run them anymore without getting payroll and then once we almost had it completely installed and paid for the next person told us it wasn't necessary. Now we are being told again that we won't get any 1099 updates without adding payroll. Just wondering if anyone else is hearing this as well?

I think MoClips is correct.  I may have inadvertently got mine to OMIT from 1099 by hitting saved and backing out and restarting QBs because all the accounts had to be remapped after I deleted all updates and reinstalled.

QB should post the correct solution because this WAS an easy process before...

Agree with Moclips regarding mapping issue and fix. Took the same route when I resolved my 2 part to three part problem earlier in the month and was left with the mapping issue as final hurdle.

I updated QB desktop (I am using QB Accountant Desktop 2019 version) as directed to Aileen A, but now am having trouble previewing or printing the 1099 NEC forms (on the 3 part form).  The 1096 form prints out without a problem.

Before updating QB desktop, I was able to print the 1099 NEC forms using a 2 part form format.

Is there something else I need to do to get these forms to print out?

I appreciate you for trying to update your file,

I'd like to add some additional steps to help you print the 3 part form for 1099 NEC.

The 3 page 1099s are available in all QuickBooks Desktop product from 2019-2022. For QuickBooks 2020, you’ll need to make sure that you’re release/version is R13_(39+) or higher

To confirm which release you have, hit the F2 keys on your keyboard when logged in to QuickBooks. This opens the Product Information screen. If your product release and version is lower than those listed, you’ll need to reset the update. Here's how:

  1. From the Help menu, select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select the Update Now tab.
  3. Tick the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  4. Select Get Updates to start the download.

When the download finishes, please restart QuickBooks and you get a prompt, accept the option to install the new release.

I've also added these references for more guides about the 1099 forms:

I'm just one post away if you need a hand with filling other tax forms in QuickBooks. I'll be here to ensure your success.

Adrian_A,

I'm trying to do remote IT support for our QB user on this issue (QB Desktop Pro Plus 2021, Windows 10).  I pointed her to your post and she ran through the update procedure you listed, but we're still at R8.  The 1099s are now printing 3-up as they should, but should we be at R13 or does that only apply to QB2020?

Thanks in advance

Hey there, paulgraz. It's good to hear that everything is up and working on your end.

To answer your question, yes, R13 only applies to all QuickBooks 2020 versions. QuickBooks 2021 uses should have the latest release of R8.

This whole cluster is an ABSOLUTE joke.  Intuit/QB - may the antitrust folks soon bust up your monopoly !!

I just discovered the issue tonight when a client brought me their 2020 QB file to do F 1099's.

NONE of the above solutions seem to work - and YES, I've updated.  Several times.  And rolled the client file up to 2021, updated, same bulls*it.

There is a solution.

Go to the 1099 MISC section (I know you don't plan to use it) Go to step 3.

THEN you can get to the menu that allows you "unmap" the 1099 accounts -- using the drop down menu select OMIT on all of them.

Go back out and go to1099 NEC and NOW you can"map" the accounts and run your 1099 NEC's.

This took me 3 months on the phone sending in my datafile and nearly a hundred hours -- holding on the phone yesterday... staring at it long enough --- I finally figured it out myself.  ITS A TWO MINUTE FIX.

Yeah, a blood sucking monopoly that preys on business failure.

This does not seem to work for me.  When I go in to Misc. the accounts that are mapped are greyed out and I am unable to change them to "Omit".  Do I have to go in to NEC first and change all of those accounts to "omit" then go into to Misc and change all to "omit"?

I followed instructions and omitted every account in Misc then went back into NEC and entered them but the same printing issue occurred.  This is such a mess.
