Ability to save settings in new Modern View Reports

While many Accountant users despise the new "Modern View" reports, based on the email this week it is here to stay.  The report has potential but right now is causing more work for end users because of our inability to modify the filters or columns and SAVE that as the default format to open each time.  Yes, you can save it as a new report, but we need at least the ability to set a default view that will allow us to mimic the Classic Report view.  For example, why is the date field so far down the list?  In the table, it is so far over to the right that even on a large monitor, you cannot see the date without reordering the columns.  And once you reorder them, that setting is not retained so if you move away from that report or drill into a transaction and return to the at report, the columns and filters are completely reset. This is inefficient and part of the overall frustration with the new reports.  Am I missing something??  Please give us the ability to set the order and SAVE it.

Ability to save settings in new Modern View Reports

Hello there, 50South.

One of the possible reasons why your report settings aren't saving could be a cache build-up. Let's rule that out by performing some troubleshooting steps.

First, access your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private or incognito browser. Then, save a customized report. If it works, I recommend going back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This will refresh the data so it starts on a clean slate. You can also use other supported browsers.

Additionally, ensure your device meets QBO's system requirements for the best experience. You can check them out in this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Online products.

Once you've saved your reports customizations, here's an article on emailing them on a recurring schedule in case you might need it: Set schedule and email information for a memorized report.

Feel free to reply to this post if you have further concerns about saving report settings. I'll be around to help you out.

It's always important to blame the browser.

This is not the issue.  It is not the browser, it is the functionality of the report.

For example, if a Profit and Loss report is generated and the user "drills" into an account balance to view the underlying details, the Transaction Report opens up.  The the new Modern View, the default settings on the Transaction report shows the data but the default settings put the date too far down the list that it cannot be viewed without manually reordering the columns.  So, in order to see the date column, I have to manually adjust the columns by moving the date to the first field.  After making this change, there is no way to save that view and have it apply to all future transaction reports.  If I go back to the Profit and Loss report and drill into another balance, the default sort of the columns appears again and I have to, again, resort the columns.  I would like to have the transaction report open by default to the columns I adjusted to.

I tried to save the report but all that does is create a Custom Report.  That is not what I intended to do, I just want to save the format so anytime I drill again from any financial report, I have the columns in the order I need.

And, I noticed today when you run a report on the Chart of Accounts, the report opens with the columns so small you cannot read anything.  The view is more side bar than report. The only way to view this report is to export to Excel.

We need the ability to set our own default settings in the modern view that apply to all future activity when actions open in the Modern View.  Without that, multiple steps are added every time we have to run a report.

It is not the browser, it is the core functionality of the way the Modern View report opens and the default order of the columns that is at issue.  But thanks, that is often the issue with other things.

Ability to save settings in new Modern View Reports

Welcome to the Community space, @50South.

I am here to provide some insights about the date column when running certain reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The modern view is the default view when running reports in QBO. When you open a report and click on the account, the underlying transactions under that account will show. By default, the date column is just beside the account column and there’s no need for you to reorder the columns on the report.

With regards to your concern about the small size of column when generating a Chart of Accounts report, you can make it bigger by holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard and move the mouse forward or back so you there’s no need for you to export it to Excel.

We value our customer's suggestions for product improvements. I recommend sending feedback to our product developers how to improve modern view reports. This will give us an idea of how we may improve the functionality of QBO to meet user's needs and enhance the working experience.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feature request in the description box.
  3. Once done, click on Next.

Moreover, I’m adding this helpful article as your reference in customizing reports in QBO: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Come back to this post if you have further concern and follow-up questions about running report in QBO. I’ll be here to lend a helping hand.
