Adding column "Received from" to deposits report

I have Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020, on a Windows 10 Pro computer.

I created a transactions report with all the deposits in my checking account, and I want to add the column "Received from" to my report, but it does not appear in the list of columns that I can add to my report.

Is there a way to get a report of my deposits with this column included?

Adding column "Received from" to deposits report

I'll share some information about the columns, FAtristain.

When running the Deposit Detail report, the name added from the Received From field will show under the Name column. If the column is not added in the report, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Reports > Banking > Deposit Detail.
  2. Click the Customize Report button
  3. Type Name in the COLUMNS field and select it.
  4. Click OK.

Here are some sample screenshots for a visual guide:

Adding column "Received from" to deposits report

Thank you for your prompt response!

And, yes!, it is true.

However,

1) in the report I want to show only the details of the deposits without the summary line.

2) notice that the "Name" in the summary line is different than the "Received from" in the details, therefore it prompts the question as to where is the "Name" stored at (i.e. how can I modify it), and, of course the "Received from" is clearly stored in the details of the deposit.

I am adding a picture of my report to show you what I see.

The deposits picture shows the deposits of the month of September.

The detail of the first deposit shows that it does not have a "Received from," yet, it has a "Name" in the first report.

My conflict is how do I work with both fields?

Once again, thank you.

Adding column "Received from" to deposits report

Thank you for your quick reply.

And, yes!, it is true, however my desire was to have a report with all the details of the deposits without the summary.

In my report, I have that the summary of the deposits have "Name," however, the details do not have "Received from."

I can tell that the fields are different, and I wanted to be able of working with both of them separately.

In your suggestion above it lists them together.  I want to show them separate (i.e. a summary of the deposits (which I already have), and a detail of the deposits (but without the summary).

I am attaching a picture where you can see my deposits, and they all have "Name," but when you open the first deposit (see the detail at the bottom of the picture), the deposit detail does not have "Received from."

That is why I want to see a report with the details without the summary of the deposit.

Once again, thank you very much.

Adding column "Received from" to deposits report

I thank you for the complete details you've shared, @FAtristain.

QuickBooks utilizes the concept called Source and Targets in generating reports. Let me share additional information on how it works.

Depending on the report you want to view, the Name column displays the customer's name, employee's name, or vendor's name, or any name indicated on a specific transaction. You can read through this article for more information: How QuickBooks generates reports.

Looking into the screenshot you've attached, it displays a detailed list of all your sales and deposit transactions related to the customer or job. Just to clarify, are these transactions downloaded directly from Venmo?

If yes, QuickBooks relies on the data Venmo shares with us. Currently, you'd want to open each deposit transaction. Just double-click on each transaction to open it.  From the Make Deposits window, manually enter the customer's name in the Received From column.

Adding column "Received from" to deposits report

Hi @IamjuViel, to reply to your question:

No, the transactions did not come from Venmo, actually they came from a Bank Feed file provided by my bank which I import monthly to stay in synch with the bank.

But, I know the transactions come with the "Name," of the customer, but there should be an option to add the "Name" to the "Received from" in the detail of the deposit, because in our case, when we make large bank deposits, each deposit detail has it's "Received from," while the "Name" of the customer in the record is secondary or irrelevant.

I hope this makes sense, but thank you for the information that you provided.
