Adding subaccount under Owners Draw

Thank you for performing the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague, @Neenah.

This is one of the limitations while the accountant changes are pending, you can't make changes to your existing accounts like creating a subaccount. You can check this article for more information: Use the Accountant's Copy.

In case your accountant already updated the company file, you can proceed with the Accountant's Copy restriction from the initial copy that was created.

Here's how to remove the Accountant's Copy Restriction:

  1. Go to the File menu and click the Send Company File.
  2. Select the Accountant's copy and choose Client Activities.
  3. Click the Remove Restrictions and choose Yes, I want to remove the Accountant's Copy restrictions.
  4. Select OK.

See this remove the accountant's copy restriction article for more information.

Once done, try adding a new subaccount: Create, edit, or delete account in QuickBooks Desktop

Let me know if there's anything that I can help with adding subaccounts. I'm always here to assist. Have a wonderful day!

Adding subaccount under Owners Draw

Let's get your new sub-account added in QuickBooks Desktop, Neenah.

Verifying and rebuilding your data is a good start when it comes to fixing transaction-related issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

To Verify Data:

  1. Click Window at the top menu bar and click Close All.
  2. Go to the File menu.
  3. From the drop-down lists, click on Utilities.
  4. Hit Verify Data.

To Rebuild Data:

  1. Click File at the top menu bar.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Hit Rebuild Data.
  4. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK.
  5. Tap OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

Once done, go back to your chart of accounts and add the new Owner's Draw sub-account. I'll be sharing with you the following write-up below. This will provide you steps on how to manage and organize your accounts by using account numbers as well as lists of standard accounts in QuickBooks Desktop: Understand the chart of accounts in QuickBooks.

This should get everything back in working order. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be here to keep helping.

Adding subaccount under Owners Draw

I have completed 'verifying and rebuilding the data'.

When I added a new subaccount under Owners Draw, I got this message:

Accountant's Charges Pending

An accountant's copy has been created from this company file. While your accountant is working on your file, you cannot create subaccounts.
