If you're using the 2020 version of QuickBooks, the issue has already been sent over to our engineers, Bill Shuherk.
They're currently running some tests and investigations to figure out this behavior. Right now, you might want to contact our Technical Support Team as they are tracking the number of affected users.
Below are the steps to reach them out:
Also, you can manually paste the items from Excel to import it in QuickBooks. Here's how:
Lastly, if you have a different version of QuickBooks, I'd recommend reporting it to our Support Team so it'll be investigated. Please refer to the steps above on how to get in touch with them.
Feel free to visit us here again if you have other questions. We'll be happy to help anytime.
Join the club. I have spent hours on the phone with support going back to late September/early October.
They say it’s a known issue they are working on.
I went as far as doing a fresh install of enterprise 20 on my home pc which has NEVER had qb installed on it. Opened one of the intuit suppled sample/demo companies. Did an item export no problem. Go to do import, and same error.
So, on a brand new fresh install their own demo file cannot even import. They released an untested, broken product. I never would have updated had I known. Unfortunately I updated and didn't try to import anything for a little over a week, so reinstalling 19 and reentering all the transactions that took place in the meantime is not feasible.
I have wasted hours manually updating items that need updating. We have 165,000 items in our database so doing manually is not a practical solution.
PLEASE FIX THIS INTUIT!!!
this is not cheap software and one of the main reasons we purchased it, is for our high amount of inventory items (regular qb capped at 10k items i believe) and being able to quickly add or update part#s
Thanks for joining this thread, capandhitch2.
Our Product Engineer is diligently investigating the cause of the error when using the advance import in QuickBooks Desktop.
For now, we recommend importing items using IIF or use Add/Edit Multiple List Entries instead of Advanced Import.
To receive updates regarding the issue via email, I recommend getting back in touch with our QuickBooks Desktop Technical Team. They can pull up your account in a secure environment and add it to the investigation (INV-37720).
Rest assured, we're actively working to get this resolved.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do with QuickBooks, and I'm always around to help you out.
I waited until just a couple of weeks ago to 'upgrade' to QB desktop premier 2020 as i heard it had some bugs but they had been fixed. I wish i hadn't. Now i cannot import my new items into QB using advanced import as i have literally been doing for the past 16 years! How can you (QB) put out a release with such an issue and not fix it for months! Totally unacceptable. I don't even recall what my u/m was set to before i upgraded but it is now multiple items/unit. Thats fine, or single is fine - i only use single. But now i get this crazy error when trying to import that the says QB is currently set to Multiple u/m mode and the mapping was created in single u/m mode. So i try to create a new one and/or save the old one and still get the same message. Then switch over to single u/m mode and now the message is reversed. So impossible to import. Now i have to waste hours manually creating new items. This is crazy. I assume that is what this post is about but i don't see the exact problem described. Also, why does the advanced import care about u/m anyways. I have NEVER been able to import a unit of measure on my items anyways. It is not an option in the mapping, so i have to go in and manually add them after importing. Please fix that while you are at it!
Pete Taylor
I feel your pain Pete! I have over 20,000 new items to import with all the descriptions, vendor info, costs, MPN's, etc. It would take me months to enter them all in manually. Not to mention the main reason for the advanced import option is to be able to take existing part numbers and import them again with all new pricing from vendors. This was the reason I got the new quickbooks! The work around provided by customer support requires me to give each new item a different name then what the manufacture calls it because the work around doesn't allow for overwriting items that already exist.
The second work around was to change the excel spreadsheet to an iif file? when the directions were sent to me from customer support, in the fine details of the instructions, it said you cannot convert an excel spreadsheet to the iif file! I have too new of excel version.
Its amazing what is allowed or passes as acceptable professional business practices today! I would never allow this product to be launched if it were my company until it was resolved.
My new quickbooks software is sitting, no being used. Such a waste of money.
Exactly. I went as far as doing a fresh install on my home pc and loading a intuit sample file. Exported the sample item list and tried to reimport it. Same error. very frustrating. I even tried some 3rd party software that can import/export all qb lists. Everything works BUT the item imports. Says import successful but there are no changes to the items.
What I did to get it to work, is I exported items to an IFF file and then copied from my excel sheet into that file with changes using vlookup. Worked for me but I was just updating pricing, not loading new items so I don't know how that will go. This U/M error has been an issue for me since I updated to 20 from 18. Guess I should have done 19 first but figured the new release had been out for a couple months. Its unacceptable to me that it its going on 5 months and still no solution. They least they could do is figure out a way to roll back your company file to 2019 version until its fixed.
After updating to 20, I hadn't needed to import so it was a couple weeks before noticing. Customer service's suggestion, was to just install 19 and re enter the hundreds of transactions since I updated. sounds reasonable..... SO annoying
I have been trying to work around this "Unit of measure error" issue since October 15th of 2019! There was a fairly long chain of messages with myself and several other users attempting each suggested step.
until we identified it was the program itself and no other import option was viable.
After we appeared to have exhausted each of the other methods of import, we were informed "We are aware of the issue, it has been sent to our engineer" Shortly afterward attempting to check for updates the link is "Access Denied".
Obviously this issue maintains a very low priority, assigned minimal support resources. (I have received no status updates since December)
🚩Everyone has this issue. If it affects you you must call, chat and post to let them know this is a massive unacceptable program flaw.
Our company has many price lists, from multiple vendors, containing several thousands of part numbers each, that would normally get updated quarterly. (we are in a very competitive market. we quote too low we loose money! If we go to high we lose the bid!) Either way marks a failure in our company that has been successful since 1967.
I personally have gone out of my way, talking my owners into putting all our eggs into one basket with "quickbooks enterprise with Priority Circle", and the thousands of $$$ that we spend a year. I am now questioning myself and fear that my employment and at least my decisions are brought into question and may be at risk.
PLEASE FIX OR GIVE US AN OPTION TO ROLL BACK WITHOUT LOSS OF TRANSACTIONS!
@QuickbooksTeam It is extremely difficult to get a hold of the technical team and tell them to add me to the list of users with the issue. Why do they need a list - it is every desktop user with QB desktop 2020. This is totally unacceptable as everyone on this discussion has said. It cannot be that difficult to fix. Workarounds do not help. Please get this prioritized and fixed. It is not just a nice to have. It should be done in a week at the very most. A developer could rewrite an import program in that time,,, come on.
So Intuit, we are going on 6 months of this issue with no update, no news, no fix. Are you going to bother or just wait for the next edition to release? This is insane to go this long without being able to update our items and prices
Hello there, @capandhitch2.
After looking further into the Investigation, this is still open and our Engineering Team is working to get this fixed. There isn't a workaround as of now, but when one becomes available, you'll be notified through your email. If you haven't already, I recommend calling into our Desktop Support to get attached to the list of affected users so you'll be notified of these updates. Here's how to get in touch:
You'll hear from an agent in no time! Let me know how the conversation goes. I'm here if you have any other questions or concerns. Have a beautiful day.
Ashley,
we have all done this, we have all called! Nothing happens! The first complaint on this thread timelines it as starting in October with a complaint filed. Its March! I am shocked that this is accepted as professional work! I know you are not responsible but telling us to report it does nothing for us! We need the people actually capable of making changes to actually do something about it.
How about this, as many copies of enterprise 20 have been installed, have the issue, whether or not he person knows it. My first contact to Intuit was in SEPTEMBER regarding this issue. Even the government gets things done quicker than....... "quick"books
Now that its been 6 months, when can we expect a fix for this issue? We just waiting for QB 21 at this point or what? This is absolutely absurd!!!!
Add another one to the list. ME!
I just upgraded from 2019, knowing from experience to wait for several months after a new version for them to work out all the bugs.
After 2 hours with a tech, they told me about the excel copy/paste. That is a horrible workaround for something that worked fine for years. It is so slow it is not even funny.
With 2020, their instructions to add you to the list of impacted customers is not even right.
I was hoping they fixed this in their latest update, but NOPE. Still "working" on this problem. Just my luck that I have to change prices for 3,000+ items because all manufacturers changed their prices this month.
Not as bad as other people, but still incredibly unacceptable. Heard that intuit puts quickbooks desktop low on their priority because they are legacy software and they are trying to move everyone to qb online. Maybe this is a sign for me to start looking for other options since intuit doesn't appear committed to customers who need this software to run properly.
Hello, @QExhaust.
I've checked from our records and found out that this investigation (INV-37720) is still open.
Also, I'll resubmit feedback about this so our engineers can take a look into this further.
In case you need tips and related links while working with QuickBooks in the future, feel free to read our help articles.
Post again if you have any other questions. I'm a few clicks away to help. Have a good day!
When is this going to be fixed???!! This is so totally unacceptable for QB to break something that is required and not fix it. I can't go to QB online because it doesn't support multi-currency and inventory builds properly.
Get this fixed now!
Hello, @Ptaylor1.
At this time, we don't have an estimated turn around time to when this issue is resolved. Rest assured that our engineers and now looking into this and are all hands working together to get a resolution a quickly as possible. if you're already added to the list of affected users in the investigation, you'll automatically receive an email notification with the latest updates.
Also, you can check out this page, to stay current with the latest QuickBooks news and updates.
Add a comment below if you have any other questions. I'm always here to help. Have a great weekend!
My subscription is due this month. I am looking into other options right now. I think the problem has been that quickbooks is fundamentally an accounting software that does a bit of inventory and CRM, etc. Unfortunately, I don't think it does either particularly well. For me, it's probably too much to look for one software that can do it all (unless I want to pay a lot) and maybe I should just need to find an accounting and CRM software that work together and do their jobs well.
This has been months in the queue. It is time to escalate this or to start giving discounts to those that can't fully use the product. Particularly for something that worked fine and was broken by QB Programmers.
Any update on this? I am trying to create a new company file due to merger and need to import about 20K items.
The status of the investigation is still in progress, @jfsmithsmith1274.
Our product engineers are still working to resolve the issue when importing items in excel using Advanced Import in QuickBooks Desktop. In the meantime, we're unable to provide you an estimated turn around time when the investigation will be closed. We'll let you know via email as soon as the issue is resolved.
I recommend reaching out to our support team so we can add you to the list of affected customers and get notified once the issue is resolved. Here's how:
For now, I suggest using the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries instead of using Advanced Import.
I've added this article that can guide you about importing list in QuickBooks Desktop:
Stay in touch with me if there's anything I can help. I'll be around to help you as soon as I can. Keep safe.
@Rubielyn_J We have about 5.4k items to add, how exactly are we supposed to do this with the useless suggestions you all are offering? I think QuickBooks does not realize how important this is to most users. In our case, we DESPERATELY need these items added in order for us to start production for this coming season. Without this we are losing a significant amount in revenue. I highly doubt Intuit will be willing to pay for the revenue loss QuickBooks has caused. The least you can do is let us revert our software to a previous version where we are able to actually work. I would at least appreciate someone to walk me through and explain how exactly we are supposed to add 5.4k items using the suggestions you all provide. Of course taking up the minimal amount of time possible, and making sure all the fields are properly filled out. Did you even know that we cannot enter some important accounting fields in items using the copy/paste (add/edit multiple) method? So even if we add these items, things on the accounting side are incorrect because the copy/past method doesn't offer all the necessary fields. It is unacceptable that this investigation has been ongoing since October 2019 and the most you all can say is "our engineers are diligently working on this" and offer workarounds that are not practical.
