I'm having an issues with assemblies requiring sub assemblies. I though maybe I screwed up the dates in the invntory so bad they could not be resolved, so I started a whole new company and ported the Items over and re-adjusted inventory so it was all recieved on 4/1. On 4/2 I built my sub assemblies. On 4/7 I'm attempting to build a main assembly, but it's saying parts that are in the sub assemblies are short (becasue they've already been built into the sub assembly) and will not let me complete the assembly. I don't have "Automatically build required subassemblies" checked (nor does it matter if I do) because the sub assemblies are already built. And these inventory items used in the sub assembly are not reused in the main assembly (other than the req sub assembly).
Inventory Items Sub Assemblies Main Assembly
1 1+2 =A
2 3+A = Main - Error Missing part 1
3
I've checked inventory on the sub assemblies, it's there. Even on the build assembly sheet for the sub assembly it says required = 3, on hand = 7. And all my dates are correct and in order (there's only 3 dates; recieved inventory, sub assembly, assembly).
So why is it trying to reference parts quantity that are already used in the sub assembly and not actually required (raw) in the main assembly?
Solved! Go to Solution.
PL look at your last inventory part item in BOM. You need 6 quantity to build whereas you have only 1 quantity on hand.
That's why the build shows maximum number you can build is 0.16666
Scroll down the BOM listing in the parent assembly, if there is nothing more listed you will not be able to, but if there is something listed off screen you most likely found the problem
what year and version has automatically build sub assemblies?
in the item list, run a quick report on the sub assembly, set the report date range to ALL and refresh the report. If you have in the past used that sub assembly or sold it to a negative on hand, then when you do build it, that is the one you are building, not one for current use. Future sales can also mess things up
It's enterprise 2015 (R5?)
I understand dates will mess things up, hence why I started an entirely new QB company file, I assumed I had messed dates up so badly there would be no resolving it. But that is not the case here. I litterally have 3 dates. Everything was entered into inventory on 4/1, sub assemblies were all built on 4/2, and main assemblies attempted to be built on 4/7. There are no sales, no POs, no orders, nothing. I have sub-assemblies available in stock, but in building those it's used the invnetory items that go into those, so there are no raw parts left on the shelf (inventory). But the main assembly is failing because there are no more raw materials, even though they are not needed other than in the sub assembly.
Looking at the build sheet right now the last column is quantity needed (like shortage) and they are ALL zeros. Yet at the bottom of the build available for build is "Qty: 0.1666". How do I build a fraction of something?

Thank you so much! I'm still confused as to why it didn't say that I "needed" 5 more, or that I could build a fraction. But that did resolve my issue, so thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Also, the shortage report said that I was missing other sub assembly components too. But when I changed that last colum, there is no more shortage report.
