Balance Sheet not showing all accounts

All of the sudden this week, when we get into Quickbooks, we got an error "It looks like something in your company files is causing your balance sheet to go out of balance". When I go to our balance sheet, several accounts are missing. Example, A/R is missing. When I go to our chart of accounts, A/R is still there with the correct balance. If I go back to the end of last year, they still show missing from balance sheet even though as of last week, they were showing up ok.

What would cause these to suddenly be missing from balance sheet and how do we get back? We're on Desktop Enterprise Solutions 23.0. We have 2 other entities on QuickBooks and those files are NOT having this same issue.

Thank you!

Balance Sheet not showing all accounts

Missing accounts when generating reports in QuickBooks Desktop can result from several factors, jdbarker. These include applied filters, selected date ranges, and data integrity issues.

It's also a good starting point to confirm that they remain active in your chart of accounts as well as using different dates in the report.

First, let’s verify if any filters in your financial report are preventing the accounts from appearing. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go back to the report and click Customize Report.
  2. Proceed to the Filters tab.
  3. Click Remove Selected Filter.
  4. Choose OK.

Second, check if the Report Basis or accounting method is correct. There are accounts that only show up on a specific reporting method. Let me show you how:

  1. Go back to the Customize Report window.
  2. Under the Display tab, toggle the selection to either Accrual or Cash under Report Basis.
  3. Select OK.

Once done, check if the missing accounts are already showing up.

If they're still missing, you can verify and rebuild your data. This process resolves the most common issues in a company file, including missing information when running reports. Here's an article as a guide: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.
