I just took over a quickbooks account and am lost with how much things have changed. Primarily, I'm looking for a way to export transactions for 2 years, categorize them properly and import them. There are accounts where I need categories and classes, so there is a lot of changing to take place. I've read a lot where there is no such ability, but I'm hoping. I have until the end of the year.

We have a really cool tool for this in the accountant's version.  It is in the accountant's toolbar called "reclassify transactions".  If you sign up to be a Proadvisor (for free) with Intuit, you will get this version.  Then you have to invite yourself to be an accountant user.  So be sure to sign up for the Proadvisor free acct. using a different email than the one you use for your file now.

Otherwise, you would need a 3rd party app that exports/imports transactions into QBO

Sounds like you have a mountain to climb over. Are you working with QuickBooks Online (which version)?

What system are you wanting to export from?

And do you really need to bring two years of data? Maybe for the historical reports but maybe you could start off by bringing everything starting with Jan 01, 2017 if your tax reporting matches that fiscal year.

Best of luck...

Quickbooks Online and I'm not sure which version as it's our previous CPA's. I have been asked to break down our contract labor for around 20 individuals for 2 years. Right now there are entries for them in an account with there names at the end. i.e. Aff commission-soandso. I've been setting up categories and classes thinking they would give us greater detail. The export would come from QB online.

Can you bulk edit other things, like Memo or Projects?

Hi there, elsey.

Thanks for joining this thread. Allow me to help and provide some insights about editing Memo or Project in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

As of now, QBO doesn't have any feature to edit the Memo or Project transactions by bulk. For the meantime, you can manually update it one at a time.

You can pull up the Transaction Detail by Account report and manually open each transaction to edit the Memo/Description field.

For Project, you can check  this article for the steps and additional information: How to turn on and use QuickBooks Online Projects.

I can see how this feature would be helpful for you, I'd recommend sending feedback directly to our product developers for future updates.

Here's how you can send feedback:

  1. Click the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Feedback
  3. Click Next and choose Feedback under Category option.
  4. Select Save.
