Can i add a new estimate to an existing project?

Good question, jojonathan47.

Yes, you can add a new estimate to an existing project in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'd be happy to walk you through how to achieve this:

  1. Go to the Projects.
  2. Choose a specific project that you want the new estimate to be added.
  3. Click the Transactions tab. Choose Estimates.
  4. Fill in the necessary information.
  5. Click Save and close.

What about after you already have transactions on the project?   My transactions doesn't look like that anymore because I already have payroll on it.  I had to quick add the project during payroll, now I'm catching up and going back to enter the estimate, etc.   It's not there.....

Thanks for joining the thread, @Winchester13. I'll add information to clarify things about adding estimates to your projects in QuickBooks Online.

You can still add those estimates at a later time since it's a non-posting transaction. Thus, it can't affect your accounting and sales reporting. Just enter the accurate date, ensure to choose the Estimate status, and you'll want to add details from the Message displayed on estimate.

I'll guide you on how to do it:

  1. Go to the Projects menu.
  2. Choose the project.
  3. Click the Add project drop-down and select Project Estimate.
  4. Choose a Status and enter the Estimate date.
  5. Enter the other necessary information.
  6. Click Save and Close once done.

To manage projects in QBO, I'll be adding this guide for your reference: Create and manage projects in QuickBooks Online.

If you want to use projects to track your labor costs and profitability in the future, this article can help: Profitability by Project.

If you have any trouble with other transactions, please let me know, and I'll do everything I can to help here in the Community. Take care always.
