Can I format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format?

Hey there, @tclark47988. It’s great to have someone like you diving into the details and asking important questions. I'm here to help you navigate this process and ensure everything goes smoothly.

You’ve hit the nail on the head: the 20-minute entry will show as 0.3333333 in the QTY column on the invoice. However, it won't automatically change to the hh:mm format when printed or downloaded as a PDF.

To save and print the invoice, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the Projects menu.

2. Select the project and head over to the Transactions tab.

3. Look for the billable expense or timesheet in the list.

4. Choose Convert to invoice under the Action column.

5. Double-check the details for accuracy.

6. Once everything looks good, hit Save. Then, Print and download.

For more detailed guidance, visit this article: Invoice customers for project expenses in QuickBooks Online.

Since the time entry won’t convert to hh:mm format, you can use a third-party app to make necessary adjustments before sending the invoice to your customer as a workaround. You can easily find one through QuickBooks Online (QBO). Here’s how:

1. Go to the Apps menu and open the Find apps tab.

2. Look for an app by entering any keyword in the search bar or using the Browse categories dropdown.

We recognize how important the time entry conversion feature is to your workflow. To help you enhance your experience with us, feel free to provide feedback as suggested by my colleague, jenop2.

I appreciate your proactive approach to resolving these details. If you have any further questions regarding invoices, please let me know. Your success is our priority. Have a great day!

Can I format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format?

Hi jeanbiverly,

But back on 2020sep08, Rea_M posted a screenshot of an invoice with the time in hrs:min supposedly without a 3rd part app.

So, it looks like this capability was available 4 yrs ago. Was it removed since then? Or maybe only available in a higher priced QB version than the “Essentials” that I have?

Thanks,

Can I format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format?

Let me provide you with more information on how to add billable hours to an invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO), tclark47988.

Please know that the option to have an hourly format is no longer available in QuickBooks. Regardless of the subscription plan, billable time will be recorded in decimal format when entered into the invoices.

If you would like to see the hourly format reinstated, I recommend sharing your feedback directly with our product team. This input helps us improve our features.

To provide feedback, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

Additionally, you can explore third-party invoicing apps to customize your invoicing needs.

Here’s how to find one through QuickBooks Online:

1. Go to the Apps menu and open the Find apps tab.

2. Look for an app by entering any keyword in the search bar or using the Browse categories dropdown.

Additionally, you can learn how to accurately allocate expenses and assess profitability by referring to this article: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by project in QuickBooks Online.

I'm here to assist you every step of the way! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the invoice time entry format, please don't hesitate to share them in the comments section below. Take care.

Can I format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format?

Hi QB Team,

It is unfortunate that I can’t enter my time in minutes and create an invoice showing minutes with QB Essentials because that was the only reason I upgraded from “Simple Start”.

Which, if any, 3rd party app will allow for me to do this?

And if a 3rd party app is available, how do I navigate to it?

Again, I am a first time user of QB.

Thanks,

Can I format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format?

Hi there, Tclark.

While we can't recommend a specific third-party app for integration with QuickBooks, we’re pleased to inform you that QBO offers a convenient feature called Find Apps. This can help you explore various third-party applications that might best suit your needs.

Here's how to access the App page:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Select Apps on the left panel, then click Find Apps.
  3. Search for an invoice management app using the magnifying glass bar or browse categories to search for an app by class.

Alternatively, you can create an invoice in QBO and save it as a PDF. Then, use Adobe Acrobat to adjust the time entries, converting them back to a minutes-based format before sending the invoice to your clients. This method will help you display the time on your invoices as you prefer.

To print or download your invoice, click the Print and Download located at the bottom of the invoice after you've saved the transaction.

If you need to personalize your sales form sales form in QBO. You can scan this reference for guidance: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

You can always revisit this forum by if you have additional questions about time entries or managing your invoices in QBO. I'm always here to assist you every step of the way.

Can I format an invoice's time entries in hour-minute (0:00) format?

Hi QB Team,

I understand that it may be against policy for employees to recommend 3rd party apps. Maybe another user can recommend one.  In the meantime, maybe a query of “invoice time minutes” may turn up something?

Another question: I’m at the sales > invoices > edit location. How do I save an edited invoice?

Thanks,

Good morning, @tclark47988

Thanks for coming back and asking other questions about your situation.

Yes, we'll let another user recommend an app for you that could help fit your needs.

As for saving the invoice after editing it, you should be able to successfully do so by clicking Save at the bottom of the invoice. If you don't see this option, please share a screenshot of your page that you're editing the invoice on.

I'll be waiting for your response!
