Welcome to the Community. Currently, the option of paper print checks is unavailable in QuickBooks Self-Employed. You'll have to manually write a check. However, to write a checks you'll have to enter it from the Transactions Menu.
I understand the importance of this option to print paper checks is much necessary for you and your business. Rest assured, I'll personally send this feedback to our product developers. This way, it might be given a chance to be added to our next products update.

The QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) 2023 update for January is still not released. Once it's available, it will automatically apply in your account since it's a cloud-based software.
