Unfortunately QBO only saves what you save. There is no autosave while working such as there is with Microsoft Office
I had a similar incident last night. The power went out in the middle of working on a large estimate and now I have to try and redo it.
If you found a solution, please let us know.
QB should have an auto backup but they don't.
Hi Marty1403,
Thanks for posting here in the Community.
As mentioned by @john-pero, QuickBooks Online (QBO) only saves information that you've saved. I'll pass this along to our product developers' team to let them know of your business needs.
In the meantime, you can manually recreate your invoice.
For future reference, please check this article in case you want to restore a deleted transaction: Use the audit log to re-enter deleted transactions.
Let me know if you need further assistance, We're always right here to help.
1. Change your computer sleep settings to remain awake always - this will use more battery life on a laptop so you would want to plug it in.
This does not prevent data loss during a power outage or a loss of internet service.
You can try downloading the desktop app of QBO while not guaranteeing you can work "offline" it might possibly save before sync - which would be what you need.
2. Create your invoices in Excel, which if you use the Office 365 version.can autosave while you work. Then import the excel sheet into QBO. You will need a third party app or be subscribed to QBO Advanced for ability to import more than just lists.
Just one more example of why Quickbooks is a piece of crap.
Shall we talk about the built-in browser that shouldn't even be part of the product?
Hasn't been improved in over 10 years.
I can provide which built-in browsers you'll need to access QuickBooks Online (QBO), WileyOne.
We encourage all QBO customers to use supported browsers. It will help ensure you'll get the best out of your QuickBooks experience.
Feel free to read through this page to know the basic requirements for your computer: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and QuickBooks Self-Employed. It will also tell you to use the browser health checkup tool to know if your current web-browser is compatible.
Stay in touch with me if you need anything else. I'm always right here to help improve your QuickBooks experience.
Spent 2hrs compiling an new invoice with loads of details went to save and quickbooks requested another log in and now the invoice is lost!!!
Can this be recovered?? Or do I have to waste another 2 hrs of my life re-writing FFS!!
PC never went to sleep and I was working on the invoice constantly.
Steve
It isn't the kind of experience that we want you to have, Captain4.
As mentioned by my colleagues, the system only saves the information that you saved.
In the meantime, you can manually recreate your invoice.
Additionally, you can use the Audit Log report as your reference in entering the transaction.
I'm just a post-away if you need help. Keep safe!
I have accidentally wiped out my laptop and it wiped out the QB icon as well. Can I still log into my account by re loading the software and logging in? I tried it just now with my email and additional info and I can’t get anything back
Thanks for joining us here today, @Anthony G.
I have some information about logging into your QBO app. You'll want to make sure you're using the correct login information for your QBO account. You can try accessing your account using a browser. Then, log in using the same User ID, Email Address, and Password.
Here's how:
If you're unable to login, please continue with the steps below to reset or recover your user ID or Password.
Once done, you'll get an email with a password reset link. Check out this guide for details: Reset your password or recover your user ID for QuickBooks Online.
I've also added this link here to help you with QBO App. It has information to guide you in installing and using it.
Please know that you're always welcome to message me anytime if you still have questions or concerns with your account. I'll be around for you. Take care and have nice day ahead.
Adrian, regurgitating the same bull feces about quick books saving only what you save is redundant, and unhelpful. It's also a slap in the face to OP, considering they were attempting to save, and quickbooks logged them out. Your commentary is not addressing the issue at hand, and makes it seem like you are actually a partially developed prototype AI bot, and not a human being.
I too spent 2 hours writing a detailed invoice all to have it deleted while trying to save. Cmon Quickbooks

iTS 2022. And they have not option of autosave. Please somebody give them that brain to get that option in. I lost all my progress due to shut down button. And now looking for autosave button.
We appreciate your feedback about having an autosave function in QBO, marrysmithge.
Being able to automatically recover the data that you've put in would really save a lot of time. Newly added features and product enhancements are usually based on the suggestions that are sent to our engineers from all channels including the QuickBooks Community.
At the moment, an autosave feature is still not available in the program. We encourage you to send more feedback or suggestion about this. The more request we receive about a particular feature, the higher the chance it will added in upcoming updates.
Here's how you can do it inside QBO:
All requests are tracked and can be viewed through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.
Let me know if that's all the information you need about auto save or data recovery. You can also visit us again anytime you have other questions.
This is indeed a sad state of affairs in 2023. All of my google docs are saved as I write them.
It's 2023 Intuit.
I totally agree... even Google backs up automatically... Ebay also.... This should not be happening at this point and time... So frustrating !!!! 2 hrs of work ....GONE !!!!!
Now it is 2024 almost 2025 !!! and I just lost 2 hrs of work for the same reason !!! (working on an Estimate) Please let me know if anyone has info on this as it is more than overdue to be done by the Quick Book IT Team....
Yep - I feel your pain.
QB is so worried about up-selling us to QB Online and increasing prices out the roof if you want to stay with the desktop version - they don't have time to actually work on simple things like auto backup.
You wonder what the heck they do all day?
I lost an estimate a couple of years ago because we lost power due to a storm and the computer shut off - had to start the estimate from the beginning - I was spitting teeth because I was so frustrated because there
wasn't any feedback from the crack QB staff.
We are at their mercy to the point that I don't even send in reports when the program crashes because I don't think anyone in QuickBooksville reads them.
Hope someone smarter than me can help you get the invoice back....but since you're probably a highly
motivated individual - you already created a new invoice.
Unfortunately you'll never get that time back.
Thanks Quickbooks.
Looks like I will suffer the same result as those above. Spent ages entering an invoice, took a phone call, came back to my login being timed out and lost all my work.
This is a tough way to learn that QBO is not up to speed.
