since you can report on item sales pretty easily, why bother to have multiple income accounts

Thank you for your help. I have to sides to a business and we like to keep an eye on the profit for each side. Same inventory part is used on both side. Just need to keep the income separate.
How would you suggest that we track the revenue from 3 different divisions of the same company that may use the same part? Separate item code for each division? Can same item be inventoried and then sold from inventory by different divisions or would that be three different inventories too?
How would you suggest we track a single part that might get sold or used by different divisions of the same company? For example, new construction vs service which both have separate income categories?
Different item code for each division?
Could it be inventoried as one part then transferred to a division for sale or two separate inventories too?
