Yes, John. You can exclude the Product/Service column in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I know a way how you can achieve this.

In QBO, you can uncheck the Product/Service section within the Custom Form Style. Afterward, select the template you created for your invoice transaction.

Step 1: Turn off or untick the Product/Service section

  1. Navigate to the upper right corner and click on the Gear icon.
  2. Choose the Custom form styles.
  3. Click the New style dropdown, then choose Invoice.
  4. Within the given field under the Design tab, enter the preferred name of your invoice template.
  5. Go to the Content tab.
  6. You'll see three sections containing a pencil icon on their upper right side.
  7. Click the middle section.
  8. Untick the Product/Service checkbox.
  9. You can also Edit the Labels and Widths of your columns.
  10. Once you've finished customizing the invoice form, click the Preview PDF or Done.

Step 2: Add the created template to your invoice entry.

  1. Go to the +New icon, then press the Invoice option.
  2. Click the Manage, then hit the Design dropdown.
  3. From the Other templates, tick the template that you created earlier.
  4. Click the Manage to close the window.
  5. Choose your customer and fill out the necessary fields, such as the Product or service section.
  6. Once done, click Print and Download, Save, or Review and Send.

You can also exclude the Product/Service column in the old invoice layout by checking out this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

After creating an invoice and having your customer pays it, you can now record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online so it balances your account.

Feel free to notify me or comment if you have further questions regarding customizing your invoices or anything about QuickBooks. I'm still here to help you in any way I can.

Can the Product/Service column in invoices, be turned off, when printing/sending and invoice? If so, how?

I need to specify a product/service when invoicing as charges are coded to different accounts/catagories.  I do not want the product/service identification to print on the invoice, just the description.  If I turn off product/service, QB simply codes each line to services income.

How do I record charges to different accounts without having product/services print on the invoice.  The answer above does not work for me using QBO 2025

QuickBooks Online will use the specified income or expense account that's assigned to your products and services, LynB1.

Can you also tell us more details about what you mean by QuickBooks simply codes each line to services income? This is to make sure that we're giving you the right information to sort this out.

In the meantime, you can follow these steps on how to make sure you've assigned the correct accounts:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Products and services.
  2. Choose an item and click on it.
  3. Scroll down to the Sales or Purchasing section, then make sure the accounts used in the Income account and Expense account fields are correct.

Please note that the Product/Service checkbox in the invoice template only controls the display of information on printed or sent invoices. Unchecking it will not affect how QuickBooks processes the accounting behind the scenes.

Your financial and other reports will stay accurate as long as you pick the right type of item (whether it's inventory, non-inventory, or service) when you're making invoices.
