Cannot add column to report

I am looking at a Transaction Report and want to add the column for Last Modified User so I can see who last touched the transaction. When I try to add the column, I'm getting the error message "You can't add more than 20 columns." When I look at the bottom of the report, it shows I have 10 columns in my report and I'm only trying to add 1 column to the report. Not sure why I'm getting this error message.

Cannot add column to report

I appreciate the reply, but every time I go in and mess with my cache stuff gets messed up and it takes me forever to get it back the way I want it. I was able to add the columns using Classic View (which I prefer anyway).

The community will always want to ensure you get great out of our services. A pleasure to have you. I'll impart some guidance to help you achieve your task.

We can perform basic troubleshooting steps to see if it's a browser issue. Sometimes, your browser's cache and cookies become corrupted, causing problems when accessing websites or opening files. To begin, open your QBO account in an incognito window. It will prevent the browser history from being saved. Please refer to the following keyboard shortcuts based on your browser type:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If the private browsing session works, clear the browser's cache so the system can restart. This task is also possible in other supported, up-to-date browsers. Clearing the cache will reboot the system, allowing you to work with clearing the stocked cache and cookies causing the issues.

Check this link for a guide in running, customizing, and saving reports: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

I'd appreciate hearing any updates after you've completed the steps, as I want to make sure this resolves your concern. Please don't hesitate to contact us again. Have a fantastic day!

How do you view in Classic View?

Always be sure to blame the browser for QuickBooks bugs. Or maybe contrails.

Or, you could try it yourself and note that the same thing will happen to you. And to the next person. And the next. And the next.

Cannot add column to report

Hello there, wilgrande.

Let me help and provide information about Classic view for reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To begin with, I'd like to know what kind of report you want to run?
Because there are reports that don't have the option to switch to Classic view.

Moreover, if you're a new user or utilizing a new QBO subscription to a fresh account, the Classic View is unavailable. Only the old user can switch from the New and Classic layout.

To switch to Classic View, you can refer to the screenshot below for visual guide:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Type a report for example: Transaction Detail by account.
  3. Click the Switch to Classic View.

In addition, keep in mind that this option is only available to some reports. For the example of a report that has no classic view, refer to the screenshot below.

For future reference, you can check this article to guide you in customizing your reports: Customize reports.

Please don't hesitate to drop a comment below if there's anything else on your mind or if you require further clarification when running reports, I'm always here to help. Keep safe!

Just to prove a point, I did go in and clear all of my cache, etc. and still getting the same error message.

All I ask is to please don't get rid of Classic View on the reports where it is available. I hate the new reporting system as it doesn't work most of the time and Classic View does.
