Buy nowI am trying to customize the columns for this report, but the "Change Columns" option is not available for this report. I can see "Change Columns" for other reports, like P&L, but for some reason it is not showing for "Sales by product/service summary". How can I fix this?
Hello there, @David.
I know how convenient it is to change columns of the Sales by product/service summary report.
In QuickBooks Online, summary reports don't have the option to change columns. This option is available in the detailed reports. You can run Sales by product/service detail report, and you will see the Change Columns option when you customize your report.
If you think you will need the same customization of the reports, you can read this article to guide you in memorizing reports in QuickBooks Online: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

This post seems to imply the the Change Columns option is available in the Summary report:
What I am trying to do is see a report of product sales per month. I would then export it to Excel so I can make a graph over time. But in the summary report there is so much extra information shown for each month that it takes a lot of effort to erase it all in Excel. As for the Detailed report, I don't think I can see the sales per month that I am looking for.
It seems like a simple thing, to just see a list of sales per month, without so much unnecessary data cluttering things. It also seems like not supporting the Change Columns feature in the summary report is totally arbitrary. Please tell me the steps I can take to get to what I need - a graph in Excel of sales (by quantity) over time.
Hi, David. Allow me to join this thread to add additional insights about modifying the report in QuickBooks Online.
The option from the attached thread is unavailable in the Sales by Product/Service Summary report. Otherwise, it is available in the Sales by Product/Service report, in which those two were different.
The summary report is your total sales, including the quantity, amount, % of sales, and average price, while the other one is a more detailed version. Thus, it has the option you need.
As a workaround, you'll want to Export your reports to Excel and modify it from there. We understand that this feature would be a great addition to our product if ever it was available. Having this in QBO would give it more flexibility and make it more organized.
You can pass this information on to our Product Team for consideration of future product enhancements. Here's how:

What I need to see is product sales month-to-month. For the Summary report I can see monthly sales over any range of time. For the Detailed report I cannot see a table of monthly sales.
For example, if I sell "Product A", I want to see a listing of my monthly sales of Product A for each month in 2022. I don't think I can do that with the Detailed report, correct?
Thank you for following my colleagues' suggestions above, @DavidDean. I recognize the need to view monthly sales through the Detailed report. Not to worry, personalizing it can help you get the data you require.
We can use the header section of the report or select the Customize button. From there, we can choose the report period and group the transactions accordingly. In your case, you can Group by the transactions to Month or Product/Service.
You can also export the reports into Excel to make some changes. This way, you can accurately get the monthly sales of Product A for a year.

But if I change the "Group by" to "Month", I can no longer see my sales per product. All of my sales of "Product A" are now mixed in with all my other sales.
I mean, this is silly. The Summary report is clearly the correct one. But for no apparent reason, Quickbooks will not let me adjust the columns in that report. The only data I want is QUANTITY, but I am stuck with Amount. % of Sales, Avg Price, etc. Why not just let me remove those columns and see only the ones I want?
And, yes, I can export it to Excel. But if I want to see only Quantity, I need to go through every month and delete all the extra columns. I may want to see data for several years and this ends up taking a lot of time, and needs to be repeated for every report. That's not a useable solution.
We appreciate you getting back here in the thread, David.
Know that this isn't the experience we'd want you to have when using the program. Reports inside QuickBooks Online (QBO) depend on the source and targets inside your company file. Since the option you want to access inside QuickBooks Online (QBO) is unavailable, we'd recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development Team. Once they see your request, they'll consider adding the feature for future product updates. These are the steps:
