Checkbook balances are not in chronological order. how can that be fixed?

Good day, jat111.

If you're referring to the option where you can arrange the list in the Chart of Accounts, then this is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). We can only sort the list in ascending and descending order.

Here's how to sort the list:

  1. Select Accounting from the sidebar menu, then click the Chart of Accounts.
  2. You can click the NAME, TYPE, DETAIL TYPE, CURRENCY, QUICKBOOKS BALANCE, and BANK BALANCE to sort the lists.
  3. Select to sort it in descending order or to sort the registers in ascending order.

I've included an article about using numbers in your Chart of Accounts. This will help keep your records organized.

Reach out to us again if you're referring to something else or you have follow-up questions. It's always our pleasure to help.

Hi jat111,

Hope you’re doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about the checkbook balances order you had. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you at any time.

Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!

Didn't you read the question? No answer to it has been given, so the problem is not solved.

Checkbook balances are not in chronological order. how can that be fixed?

Hi there, jat111.

I appreciate you for getting back to us regarding the checkbook balances. Allow me to step in and help you fix the list in the Chart of  Accounts.

If you're viewing your transactions in the bank register, it is listed on the most recent date by default. However, you can sort the register using the following criteria:

  • Date: Sorts the list by transaction date.
  • Ref no: Sorts the list by the transaction reference number.
  • Type: Classify by type of transaction.
  • Payment: Categorized by the amount of the payment.
  • Deposit: Sorts by the deposit amount.
  • Reconcile Status: Sorts by the reconciliation status of the transaction.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Accounting on the left navigation menu.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. Tap the View register link of the bank account you want to view.
  4. Hit the column you want to sort.
  5. You can also tick the Funnel icon to filter the transactions.

I've included this reference that'll help you understand your account and its transaction history which breaks down how much money you have or owe: The Chart of Accounts in QuickBooks.

Feel free to get back to me anytime you have further questions about arranging the checkbooks balances in order in QBO. I'm always around to lend a hand.
