Detailed report of money out by chart of accounts account type

Welcome to the Community, @AKJohnC.

I'll help you run a report for your accounts that shows their accounts type for money out.

You can run a Transaction Detail by Account report and filter it to the expense transactions.

Here's how:

  1. From the left menu, go to Business Overview and choose Reports.
  2. Click on the Find report by name search bar.
  3. Enter Transaction Detail by Account.
  4. Hit the Customize button.
  5. Click the Filter dropdown.
  6. Tick the checkbox for the Transaction Type and choose the expense transactions from the dropdown.
  7. Hit Run Report.

For future reference, you can read this article to memorize the report: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online. It contains the steps to save your customization of the report.

Let me know if you have questions about running reports in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

Detailed report of money out by chart of accounts account type

Hi Ethel,

Thanks for your reply, but I am not interested in transaction type.  I want to see the account type from the chart of accounts.

Hello there. @AKJohnC.

Let me chime in and help you generate a report account type from the chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Click the search engine to find the report you need.
  3. Enter Account LIst.

With this, you can easily find the account type from the chart of accounts.

I'll include this helpful resource that you can read to get more information about the account and detail types in QBO: Learn about account types and detail types in QuickBooks Online.

I'm always here ready to lend a hand if you have any other concerns managing your accounts in QuickBooks. Have a good one and stay safe.

Thanks but all that looks like is a report of my chart of accounts.

Here is a sample of what I need

DateTrans TypeNameAccountAccount TypeAmount
08/01/2023ExpenseOffice DepotOffice SuppliesExpenses$25.00
08/02/2023ExpenseElectric CoUtilitiesExpenses$75.00
08/03/2023ExpenseAcmeMedical EquipFixed Assets$100.00

Column 5, Account Type from the Chart of Accounts, is the data field I'm interested in seeing.  Because if a transaction gets accidentally categorized as Account Type 'Fixed Assets' then it won't show on the Profit and Loss report and that's the report I use to get my monthly expenses.

Thank you for getting back to us, @AKJohnC.

In QuickBooks Online, there is no report that shows the chart of accounts and account types specific for money out.

I am aware of the advantages for businesses like yours. I want QuickBooks Online (QBO) to have this feature as much as you do.

However, I strongly urge you to share your thoughts with our software engineers. They carefully examine customer feedback, especially when determining how to improve QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  3. Type in your suggestion and click Next.

As a workaround, you can export the Transaction List by Vendor report to Excel. From there, you can edit the report and add a column for the account types. Refer to your Chart of Accounts for the account types and add them manually to the Excel file.

Here is an article you can read for the detailed steps of exporting reports to Excel: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.

Also, you can visit our blog site so you'll be able to get the latest news about QuickBooks and what our Product Care Team is working on.
